'Suicide Sqaud' Producer Discusses David Ayer's Vision; Reveals Movie Was Greenlit During First Pitch

"Suicide Squad" producer Charles Roven reveals how Warner Bros. quickly approved David Ayer's pitch on the film.

Speaking with Collider, Roven offered details on the movie's inception as well as the director's passion and enthusiasm.

"He had a close relationship with [Warner Bros. executive] Greg Silverman and Greg said, 'He's got an idea on Suicide Squad, he wants to come in and pitch it.' Having a guy like that who's been able to-all of his films have had a certain level of groundedness to them, really feeling very richly real," Roven stated.

"And so having that sensibility, which is along the lines of what we were talking about earlier how we like to have things grounded in science or whatever, I was very anxious to hear what his take was gonna be on Suicide Squad and I was very happily surprised, but it was right exactly in the pocket that we were looking for," he explained. "Honestly that movie was essentially greenlit in the pitch meeting."

The "Suicide Squad"' is a secret team of supervillains that have been imprisoned by the U.S. government. The team undertakes dangerous misions in exchange for shortened sentences, according to Cinema Blend's summary of the film.

The film features Will Smith (Focus) as Deadshot, Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) as Joker, Margot Robbie (Wolf of Wall Street) as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevigne (Papertowns) as Enchantress, Joel Kinnaman (Run All Night) as Rick Flagg, Jai Courtney (Terminator: Genisys) as Captain Boomerang, Adewale Akkinuoye-Agbaje (Lost) as Killer Croc, Adam Beach as (Bury Me At Wounded Knee) as Slipknot, Jay Hernandez (Hostel) as El Diablo and Viola Davis (How To Get Away With Murder) as Amanda Waller.
