K-Pop Crossover: Pet Shop Boys Thank f(x) Following MAMA Collaboration Performance [VIDEO]

The annual Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) brings about some of K-pop's biggest acts, but more and more international pop icons are joining the year-end celebration.

This week, English electronic pop duo Pet Shop Boys performed at the award show in a joint performance with SM Entertainment girl group f(x). Pronounced the most successful duo in UK music history, they thanked f(x) after accepting the Worldwide Inspiration Award.

"We'd both like to thank f(x) for their wonderful performance on stage with us tonight at the MAMA Awards in Hong Kong," wrote Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe on their website.

"Beautiful vocals on 'Vocal' and 'What have I...?' thanks to Amber, Krystal and Luna. Also thanks to MAMA for giving us the Worldwide Inspiration Award."

f(x) leader Victoria Song was absent from the MAMA Awards this year.

The collaboration seems fitting, given f(x)'s recent comeback, "4 Walls," which prominently featured the composition of Euro-dance-inspired producing team LDN Noise.

"LDN Noise, Tay Jasper and Adrian [McKinnon] killing the game," tweeted the official Warner/Chappell Music Twitter account, the American label that LDN Noise signed with this past March. "Great job."

After sweeping Chinese and Korean music charts, their collaboration has apparently paid off, as f(x) have earned their first ever solo concert seven years after their debut. Reportedly, the concert will be held at Olympic Park in Seoul in January of 2016.

Meanwhile, a new album by Pet Shop Boys is speculated to be released March or April of next year.

"After spending most of the year writing songs for their next album, Pet Shop Boys are leaving the studio to perform three Electric concerts in Spain over the next week," said their website in July.

The duo has been reportedly working with Stuart Price on the production of the album.
