New 'Doctor Who' Season 10 Companion Will Be Female, According To Steven Moffat

Although we don't have a definitive name yet for the next "Doctor Who" companion for Season 10, Steven Moffat has provided more details on the direction of his future casting.

During an interview with Radio Times, executive producer Steven Moffat sounded off his tentative vision for "Doctor Who" Season 10, including finding a new companion.

"I'm beginning to have an idea of the kind of person, specific ideas but not a specific actress," said Moffat.

"A new companion gives us the chance to launch the show again. It began in 1963 with the story of Ian and Barbara and then in 2005 with Rose Tyler. Arguably it begins again with the story of Amy Pond. You can recruit new viewers when somebody else meets the Doctor. And I think we've got a really cool new idea about how to do that. "

In addition, Capaldi reportedly would like to see an "earthier" companion for the Doctor after actress Jenna Coleman makes her exit as Clara Oswald.

"It's one of the things I loved about Billie Piper," he said according to Doctor Who TV.

"That was a very new thing in 'Doctor Who'-to have somebody who lived on an estate, and had a much earthier sound to their voice. I mean, I love Jenna-I'm really sad that she's gone, and I feel quite bad discussing the possibility of somebody else. So it's no reflection on her. But I think it might be interesting to have somebody who's a little more earthy!"

Only time will tell who will take on the important role of companion when "Doctor Who" returns with Season 10.
