Will The Controversial 'Final Fantasy 7' Remake Battle System Change As A Multi-Part Series?

The nostalgia hype has been very real for "Final Fantasy 7" fans around the world, but will Square Enix have to address the already controversial battle system shown in the recent gameplay trailer?

Over the weekend, Square Enix revealed the first gameplay trailer for the "Final Fantasy 7" remake. While the visuals stunned excited fans, the battle system received some mixed reactions.

"I feel like half of the people here, including myself, were expecting the same overall story and combat but with beautiful graphics and a good bit of new things sprinkled throughout," commented YouTuber Biruh Haptu. "The other half wanted a whole new game that was based in the aesthetic world and based on the story of 'Final Fantasy 7.'"

However, things might just change in the near future anyway, as a follow-up press release from Square Enix has stated that the aforementioned remake will not be the only planned release.

According to The Verge, the remake will be "told across a multi-part series, with each entry providing its own unique experience." While this could mean any number of scenarios, a change in the combat system could be reflected if the reception is less-than-stellar upon its eventual release.

According to Exophase, a website that tracks trophies and achievements, 32 Trophies have been found for the PS4 port of "Final Fantasy 7." Although initially rumored to be released in October, the release date for this port is now looking to be relatively soon.

"Achievement and trophy lists typically don't appear until a game is close to release, usually a month or so in advance at most," wrote Gamerant contributor Dalton Cooper.

Reportedly, the PlayStation Experience event is taking place this week, so rumors are circulating that the release date could be as early as this month.
