JYP Entertainment Founder Pushes For More K-Pop Collaborations With Chinese Artists

Park Jin Young (more commonly known as JYP) has expressed his interest in diversifying music through more work with Chinese musicians.

On Thursday, Jan. 7, the singer and JYP Entertainment founder attended the 2016 Weibo Night Awards with Nichkhun of 2PM, K-pop boy band BEAST, and members of the Running Man cast. At the event he was recognized as the Most Influential Producer of the Year for his work on major albums by 2PM, miss A, and Wonder Girls.

Upon accepting the award, JYP shared his desire to collaborate with more Chinese artists in the future. "I would love to make more diversified music," JYP explained after thanking his Chinese fans for their support, according to Korea Herald.

Many Korean companies have already included Chinese members in their group lineups, such as the notorious SM Entertainment group EXO who were originally split between EXO-K in Korea and EXO-M in China. YG Entertainment and FNC Entertainment have also started to engage with the Chinese music market through various company joint mergers and idol-creating reality programs. Hopefully, JYP's dream collaborations will mean both more Chinese participation in Korean music and more global attention being put onto well-established Chinese stars.

Other Korean acts to do well at the 2016 Weibo Night Awards were BEAST, who took him the "Asia Popularity Award" and Nichkhun who was chosen as "Male God of the Year."
