Girls' Generation's Seohyun To Bring New Energy To 'Mamma Mia!' Role

Girls' Generation member Seohyun (Seo Ju Hyun) will be starring in her third musical role, and she is ready to shine.

The singer-actress will star as the main character Sophie in the musical Mamma Mia, and plans to bring new life to the role.

The cast and crew for the upcoming stage production held a press conference on Tuesday, Jan. 12 where Seohyun revealed her thoughts on the part.

"It is safe to say I had a feeling of burden," said Seohyun, as reported by K-Pop Herald. "I was honored to be onstage with high-profile, veteran actresses."

"I think that I could play energetic Sophie," Seohyun added. "While practicing, I loved the atmosphere, full of happy energy."

In 2014, Seohyun first tried her hand at stage acting starring as Yeon Woo in The Moon Embracing the Sun and then appeared with great acclaim as Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind.

The music director, Kim Moon Jeong, revealed that the team show possibilities with Seohyun and that she will bring the same energy and happiness to Mamma Mia that fans have seen in her previous roles.

Since Mamma Mia first appeared on stage in South Korea in 2004, the musical has been a favorite amongKorea theater-goers because of the fun music and touching storyline between a mother and daughter and the friendships between middle-aged women.

The spotlights for Mamma Mia will turn on Feb. 24, and run until June 4. Information regarding the upcoming musical can be found by visiting Seensee Company's official website.

In addition to her stage work in the coming weeks, fans can catch Seohyun in upcoming big and small screen acting projects. The idol will appear in the Chinese-Korean flick So I Married an Anti-Fan and on in the upcoming SBS drama Startling by Each Step: Ryo.
