Girls' Generation's little sister group Red Velvet has overshot the K-pop queens as the most-downloaded girl group of 2015.
Dominating the top rank of girl groups in 2015, Red Velvet had the overall most downloads amongst K-pop girl groups, with their three most popular songs being downloaded in total more than 2.4 million times. "Ice Cream Cake," "Dumb Dumb," and "Wish Tree" were Red Velvet's most downloaded songs of 2015.
On Wednesday, a post on the Korean site Instiz revealed the 2015 rankings of Gaon Chart's most downloaded songs of the year.
Gaon Chart, the equivalent of South Korea's Billboard charts, is the most widely-recognized Korean music chart.
The list revealed that Red Velvet overtook Girls' Generation, the reigning most popular girl group in South Korea. The two acts are both signed to SM Entertainment.
Girls' Generation's "Catch Me If You Can," "Party," and "Lion Heart" also were downloaded more than 2.2 million times in total.
Sister came in third place amongst the composite downloads ranking, but their song "Shake It" was downloaded the most times overall. "Shake It" was downloaded more than 1.6 million times.
EXID, miss A, GFRIEND, AOA, A Pink, Mamamoo, and Wonder Girls also were amongst the top ten most popular girl groups to have songs downloaded in 2015.
