20 Months In, Kris Wu's Contract Nullification Lawsuit With SM Entertainment Moves Forward

On Wednesday, reps of the South Korean music label SM Entertainment met for a second plea date with the legal team representing Canadian-Chinese pop star Kris (Wu Yi Fan).

The two teams met at the Seoul Central District Court, but were unable to agree to terms related to an ongoing contract nullification. Kris, a former member of SM Entertainment's boy band EXO, filed a lawsuit to end his exclusivity contract with the K-pop powerhouse in May 2014.

The most recent meeting ended with Kris's legal reps declaring that they didn't receive satisfactory reports from SM Entertainment regarding Kris's schedules and reports relating to his earning/profits distributions. SM's legal team provided most of the documents that had been requested, but Kri's team requested to see Kris's schedule from prior to his debut with EXO, while he was still under SM Entertainment as a trainee.

The two sides met at a first plea date last October, and a third has been set for next March.

In 2014, Kris left EXO amidst a contract nullification lawsuit, declaring that he and other Chinese-national members of EXO were mistreated. He had debuted as the leader of Mandarin-language subgroup EXO-M in 2012.

Kris's lawsuit was followed by suits against SM Entertainment from Luhan and Tao, two other Chinese members of EXO.

SM Entertainment has filed several counter lawsuits against the three entertainers, for continuing their careers in China while still technically under contract with the K-pop agency.

Kris most recently made headlines for walking in a Burberry menswear fashion show and was also announced as part of Team Canada's roster for the upcoming NBA Celebrity All-Star Game.
