'Sherlock' Season 4 Release Date: 'Sherlock' Season 4 Release Date Slated For January 2017’; Will Begin Production Soon

'Sherlock' Season 4 Release Date, Cast, Plot Update: Benedict Cumberbatch-starrer "Sherlock" season four will arrive next year. Sherlock season 4 will begin production soon. It was previously announced that the three-episode season 4 would begin production in April.

"We do have the next 'Sherlock' announced, that is coming up about a year from now," PBS president Paula Kerger said.

"As you know, Benedict has gotten to be somewhat popular since we began our work with him. He very much wants to continue with 'Sherlock.' As you know, they are produced almost like films, and we're hoping the next one will be about a year from now."

The Sherlock holiday special 'Abominable Bride' was set in 1895 Victorian Era, the year that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle killed off the Holmes character only to revive him again. The standalone episode was granted a limited theater release in many parts of Europe.

"Sherlock" Season 4 will start filming in Spring 2016 but there is no script yet.

Steve Moffat recently told Collider that "Sherlock" season 4 might include a crossover with "Doctor Who." The "Sherlock" creator also firmed up the possibilities that season 4 will be ready for a 2017 release date.

"I think we're shooting next year, April-ish," Moffat told Collider. He also said that writer Mark Gatiss "may have started" writing the episodes already.

Is it possible that Molly and Lestrade might hook up on Sherlock Season 4?

"I think definitely Lestrade has got the hots for Molly. So maybe they'll develop that. We don't know what happens until we see the scripts, and that could literally be a couple of weeks before you film," Rupert Graves told reporters while promoting ABC's upcoming drama series The Family.

Back in July, Sherlock showrunner Steven Moffat also teased about the coming heat.
