YG Entertainment boy band WINNER returned this week with a brand new EP, their first release since making their debut a year and a half ago. But it seems that at least one member is a little shy about his contribution to the album.
On Feb. 1, WINNER joined Korean news outlet My Daily to discuss their latest EP EXIT: E. During their conversation member Nam Taehyun, whose solo single "I'm Young" was released alongside the two title tracks, shared his thoughts about the track that he not only sang but wrote and composed as well.
According to the vocalist, who explained the origins of the song in the interview, he never intended for it to be released.
"I didn't want this track to be released as my solo song. It's just a song that I wrote when I was in love. I was hurt over a break up and struggled with accepting the reality," Taehyun confessed, "I poured my feelings into the song."
Taehyun continued to explain that YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk somehow got a hold of "I'm Young" after Taehyun had sent the demo to another YG Entertainment staff member.
"I wrote this song maybe one or two years ago and had forgotten about it completely. I was nervous about this song making it to the album. I felt uncomfortable sharing such a sincere story with the world," Taehyun commented.
However, as apprehensive as the WINNER member was, the ultimate release of "I'm Young" has won fans over easily. "Looking back, I think including such an authentic song was a good decision. I've learned the appeal of the sincerity," Taehyun said in response to the highly positive reception.
