From the network responsible for creating a whole wave of new Korean music stars, a new singing competition with a younger crowd in mind.
After the success of music reality shows like Unpretty Rapstar, Show Me The Money, Superstar K and more, South Korean TV network Mnet is now calling on young talented and musically-oriented children for their newest survival program We Kid.
Short for "We Sing Like A Kid," the show caters to a young audience as teams consisting of the industry's top stars, composers, and, of course, musically-talented kids collaborate to produce songs fit for children.
There are three teams for the show's inaugural season. The first team consists of actress Park Bo Young and composer Yoo Jae Hwan, the second with actor Yoo Yeon Seok and composer Yoon Il-sang and finally the third team consisting of hip-hop artist Tiger JK and composer Bizzy.
When it came to gaining inspiration for the show, producer Kim Yong Beom was reminded of his own childhood.
"We know that memories of our childhoods are very much connected to music," Kim said in a press conference for the show on Feb. 17. "Our focus while creating this program was to take the innocence and purity of original children's songs and to reinterpret it through an Mnet, CJ E&M style."
The first season of We Kid will run for eight weeks and kicked off on Thursday, Feb. 18. Clips of the contestants can be viewed through Mnet's official YouTube channel.
