A little over a month since K-pop agency JYP Entertainment faced cooling relations with China over a political issue, the music label announced a new venture in China.
On Friday, JYP Entertainment announced that it signed a deal with China's top music distribution company, China Music Corporation. The deal gives China Music Corporation the rights to exclusice distribution of JYP Entertainment music over the next five years.
The news comes around a month after JYP Entertainment faced major tremors in its overseas expansion after a member of one of JYP's girls group members became embroiled in Sino-Taiwanese politics.
The new deal between JYP Entertainment and China Music Corporation marks JYP Entertainment's continued push into the large Chinese music market. Not only will the deal handle JYP Entertainment's music distriubtion in China, the two companies will also set up a joint venture to foster musical growth in China.
Additionally, the JYP-China Music Corporation agreement will involve the two parties pushing to stop illegal downloadings and fight to protect copyrights.
JYP Entertainment has several international acts under its label. Idol groups GOT7 and Twice each has members of Chinese descent, and the company as a whole has seen success in China.
