YG Entertainment is somewhat known for encouraging their artists to participate in the production of their music.
After all, music and lyrics always sound better when then artist created it themselves.
So far it looks like YG Entertainment is continuing that trend with Lee Hi's upcoming album. Recently, producer and head of YG subsidiary label HIGHGRND, Epik High'sTablo, talked about Lee Hi's role in the production of her new album and confirmed that she played a very crucial role.
"The producer for Lee HiI's album is Lee Hi herself. We're just working as the bridge between Lee Hi and other artists of one mind with her, so that she can sing pleasantly," said Tablo.
"I've got this cool name as the 'producer for Lee Hi's new album'. More precisely, both I and DJ Tukutz are the producers and we're more like curators. We're helping ourselves and musicians whom we cherry-picked to complete a good album in which Lee Hi can take pride."
Lee Hi's contributions to her new album will perhaps be even more interesting when you consider how much the artist has aged since her debut. Lee Hi release her album "First Love" when she was just 16, so now that she is 19, perhaps her new album will reveal a different maturity level.
Though it's clear that Lee Hi contributed greatly to her new album, YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk reportedly chose Tablo to spearhead Lee Hi's new album because of his own skills.
An affiliate at Tablo's HIGHGRND label explained Yang Hyun Suk's decision as follows:
"Since CEO Yang Hyun Suk is so busy nowadays, he worried that he won't be able to manage Lee Hi's comeback to the best of his abilities. That's why he trusted Tablo's producing skills and left her to him. Tablo accepted his favor without hesitation and is currently under preparation to perfect Lee Hi's comeback," said the HIGHGRND affiliate.
Lee Hi's new album is expected to be released sometime in March.
