‘1 Night 2 Days’ member Kim Jong-Min wins the Grand Prize in the KBS Entertainment Award

After nine years experiencing ups and downs in the variety show “1 Night 2 Days,” KBS acknoelwdged Kim Jong-Min’s dedication. He is awarded the Grand Prize (Daesang) in the KBS Entertainment Award on Christmas eve Dec. 24, 2016.

Jong-Min won the award after nine years in the show. According to official release from the KBS, he is the only member who stays in the “1 Night 2 Days” variety show since its first season in 2007. His resilience in the show for three consecutive seasons and nine years is remarkable.

The singer and dancer is known in the “1 Night 2 Days” with his nickname Shinba, an acronym of Shinan Babo (신난 바보) which literally means “excited fool.” He is the cast member who consistently portrays himself as a fool throughout the nine years. However, many viewers have suspected that he pretended to be a fool, because when it came to history, there is none of the member can beat Jong-Min with his vast knowledge of Korean history.

In the 15th KBS Entertainment Award this year, according to Chosun Ilbo, he has been predicted to win the Grand Prize Award. He defeated other nominees, namely his fellow “1 Night 2 Days” cast member Kim Jun-Ho, “Superman Returns” Lee Hwi-Jae, “Happy Together” host Yoo Jae-Suk, and the “Immortal Songs” host Shin Dong-Yup.

After his winning, fellow cast member Jun-Ho posted a picture of them together in his Instagram and saying Jong-Min as his junior Daesang award recipient. Jun-Ho won Grand Prize award in 2012 for his apperance in Gag Concert and “1 Night 2 Days.”

“1 Night 2 Days” is now in its Season 3 and the program is currently in its peak performance after overcoming many crisis. This year it won many awards in the 15th KBS Entertainment Award including the Viewers Choice Award for two consecutive years. Its new cast member Yoon Shi-Yoon, who goes by his real name in the show Yoon Dong-Gu won the Best Newcomer for the Variety, while its writer Jung Sun-Young also awarded the Best Writer for Variety Show.
