Young actor Nam Joo-Hyuk admitted that he has grown more confident with his acting after playing lead character in MBC drama “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo.” He said that the character Kim Bok-Joo is his ideal type, The drama was his first time to play the lead character.
The 22-year-old actor in an interview with Korea Times shared his experience in the drama. He admitted as young actors, he and his co-star Lee Sung-Kyung didn’t have any expectation with the ratings. He was thankful to become lead character in the drama. "We did not have any expectations for the audience rating as we were still newcomers and we would be playing cute characters the viewers could meet in their daily lives,” Nam said during an interview.
In the drama, Nam and Lee, both are from the same agency YG Entertainment play the lead characters. Beside the fact that they are from the sam agency, both of them are able to show a perfect chemistry in the drama. Thus making audience, particularly international audience fell in love with them.
His acting in the Episode 15 of the drama was highly praised by Yonhap News Agency. In that episode his character Jung Joon-hyung met his biological mother for the first time after she left him in Korea after his father’s passing away, remarried and lived in Canada. Nam was able to portray a deep sorrow to match senior actress Yoon Yoo-Sun who played her biological mother. He also said that Bok-Joo is his ideal type of woman. As a man he prefers to have a girlfriend with character like Bok-Joo rather than Shi-Ho, because of her easy-going and warm attitude.
“Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo” was not received well by audience in Korea, averaging only 4.6 and 4.8 percent ratings in AGB Nielsen Korea and TnMs respectively. But internationally, many fans love to see the coming-age drama which can be seen by the number of viewers in official streaming sites. The drama ended its final episode on Jan. 11.
