The 6th Gaon Chart Music Awards has just ended. The event happened on Feb. 22, attended with tons of Kpop artists like BTS, EXO, BLACKPINK and many more.
The 6th Gaon Chart Music Awards was held inside the Jamshil Indoor Gymnasium in Seoul on Feb. 22. The event was hosted by Solar of MAMAMOO and Lee Teuk of Super Junior.
EXO won: Artist of the Year Award for number of albums sold in the 2nd and 3rd quarter; and Artist of Fan Choice Award for the group and individual categories. EXO's songwriter Joo Yoon Kyung also was awarded with the Song Writer of the Year award, reports Soompi.
BTS also won Artist of the Year Award for the number of album sales in the 4th quarter. The group also brought home the V LIVE Global Popularity award as they always garner millions of viewers during live broadcasts.
The Producer of The Year went to Big Hit Entertainment's Bang Shi Hyuk. The Star of the Year award for Choreography was brought home by Son Seung Deuk.
BLACKPINK also won Artist of The Year Award for monthly song sales (for the month of August and November) together with TWICE (for the month of April and October). The Rookie of the Year Award also went to BLACKPINK while stylist for TWICE Choi Hui Seon took home the award for Style of the Year.
Billboard reports that the 6th Gaon Chart Music Awards was ruled mainly by male K-pop acts as they dominate the physical album sales, thanks to their huge female fanbase. Female K-pop idols and singers on the other hand, dominate the digital sales because of their alluring assets.
The Gaon Charts is run by the Korean Music Content Industry Association: With the goal of creating a tracking system similar to that of Billboard's. The Gaon Chart Music Awards was first launched in 2010.
