K-pop Parody Group BgA Rises To #3 Of Billboard World Digital Song Chart With 'Who's It Gonna Be?'

What started out as a parody K-pop group is actually working out quite well as BgA or Boys Generally Asian made it to #3 in Billboard's World Digital Song Chart. This was the first time that the parody group has cracked the Billboard chart.

According to a report by SBS Pop Asia, BgA's latest single "Who's It Gonna Be?" made it to the Billboard list. BgA which started out as a parody group of YG Entertainment's BIG BANG, is made up of members J-Lite, P-Dragon, Daeyang, Jeungri and R.O.P intended as counterparts of Daesung or D-Lite, G-Dragon, Taeyang, Seungri and T.O.P.

Each member has a fictional backstory, according to Soompi. J-Lite is an idol that has been banned from performing in variety shows, Daeyang is a rejected member of a girl group, and R.O.P was simply discovered at Chipotle. The music that they perform are written and produced by Ryan Higa and David Choi who play R.O.P and Daeyang in the group. The concept of most BgA videos are mainly poking fun at the general tropes that are familiar to Korean pop music and idols in general.

After making their debut last year with "I have to Sh*t", BgA came to the attention of many K-pop fans this year as their track "Who's It Gonna Be?, a song that revolves around choosing the leader of their group, which earned more views that some legitimate K-pop idol groups with over 7 million views.
