After breaking the record set by One Direction as the musical group with the most number of weeks on the Billboard Social 50 chart, BTS has broken yet another record on the American chart. This time, the K-pop group has surpassed Taylor Swift's 28-week record on top of the charts.
BTS has maintained its foothold on the charts since it entered the Billboard Social 50 in October 2016. With 29 weeks on the chart, they managed to edge out the "Red" singer who stayed on it for 28 weeks.
This achievement makes BTS as the artists with the second most number of weeks on the Billboard Social 50. They trail Justin Bieber who has set a remarkable record for his "Purpose" album with 161 weeks on the chart.
It can be recalled that before smashing Taylor Swift's record, BTS also surpassed Rihanna and Miley Cyrus who both had a 21-week streak on Billboard Social 50. BTS also destroyed One Direction's 8-week record on the chart long before.
During the recent Billboard Music Awards, BTS won the Top Social Artist Award beating Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Shawn Mendes. The boys charted a milestone as the first K-pop group to win at the BBMAs and in decisive fashion with 300 million votes to propel them to victory.
At the awards ceremony, BTS thanked ARMY, their official fandom for taking their music to new heights and for sharing them on a global scale. The boys' win also sparked fresh interest for their music as they became the most Googled topic after their victory. BTS member Jin also drew some accidental attention to his good looks when he and fellow BTS members stepped out for the Magenta Carpet and he became a trending topic for being the "third member from the left."
