Taeyang and Daesung - half of acclaimed K-pop troupe BIGBANG - made the rounds online when they brought their group's biggest hits to the stage of a recently held military music festival.
The said revelry was held in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Korean Provisional Government. It took place at the Independence Hall of Korea headquartered in Cheonan.
The K-pop icons, who are currently doing their mandatory military conscription, thrilled attendees with a fiery medley of their megahits, "Bang Bang Bang" and "Fantastic Baby." As of writing, the video of their performance has already gained over 1 million YouTube hits.
Their music fest stint also featured the two owning the spotlight with their respective solo performances.
Taeyang kicked off this portion with "Ringa Linga," while Daesung sustained the excitement with an engaging rendition of the trot piece, "Look At Me Gwisoon.”
According to Taeyang, it is both their honor to have performed at the "meaningful event." "It's so good to see you after a long while," he further added.
Apart from the two BIGBANG members, the musical spectacle also featured a star-studded roster of guest performers, including trot queen Hong Jin Young, Highlight's Yoon Do Joon, and K-pop groups Lovelyz and SF9.
Actor Go Kyung Pyo also graced the landmark celebration.
Both Taeyang and Daesung are expected to be released in November this year. Other BIGBANG members - TOP and G-Dragon- will meanwhile be respectively discharged in June and October. Unlike other members, TOP is doing public works instead after his mandatory service was cut short because of his marijuana usage issue.
While these four K-pop figures are serving the military, former member Seungri has been involved in the infamous Burning Sun scandal, which has shaken the entire Korean entertainment industry.
Currently under investigation, the "Gangnam style"sex crime also involves other known K-pop names like singers Jung Joon-Young and Roy Kim, Highlight's Yong Jun Hyung, CNBLUE's Lee Jong Hyun, and FT Island's Choi Jong Hoon.
Considered as the biggest crime-scandal to have hit the Hallyu industry, the allegations comprise the secret filming of sex scenes and sharing them on an online communication platform, among others.
With this issue, Seungri was prompted to retire from the industry as announced in an Instagram post he uploaded on March 11.
With his retirement and departure, the song "Flower Road" marks as BIGBANG's last release as a K-pop quintet. News have circulated that they will continue to perform and work together as a four-piece outfit after they finish their military and community services.
