After months of speculations -- with sources denying them in previous statements -- the reunion of girl group I.O.I. is confirmed to be in the works.
According to reports, a source confirmed this to insiders last June 28, albeit revealing that "no details have been finalized yet. We are currently discussing how the schedule will pan out, but we will share the news as soon as possible," the rep further stated.
Earlier this month, reports have surfaced that the 11-piece outfit will be reunited with nine members only. These include Chungha, Kim Sejeong, Choi Yoojung, Kim Sohye, Kulkyung, Jung Chaeyeon, Kim Doyeon, Nayoung, and Kang Mina.
Though initially turning them down, agencies of Jeon Somi and Yoo Yeonjung remarked that they are reviewing the reunion proposal once again. Somi, now with YG Entertainment, has debuted as a solo artist with her single "Birthday." Yeonjung, on the other hand, will be busy promoting her works as part of WJSN.
As reported by Soompi, an agency of one of the members previously shared that they are meeting with other companies to "confirm specifics about an album release, a concert, and other details."
"The fans are very much looking forward to I.O.I, and even if the reunion is a one-off, the members want to do it," the source further remarked.
Chungha, who has been recently making waves with her comeback EP, "Flourishing," hyped up fans when she said in an interview that if the chances of the reunion were real, "[she] would not hesitate and go for it an instant.
I.O.I was formed by CJ E&M through the hit reality show and talent search, Mnet's "Produce 101." The project girl group consisted of different K-pop artists representing different agencies.
They debuted on May 2016 with the launch of their EP, "Chrysalis." After less than a year of promoting, they announced that they will be disbanding. Their last concert as a group was held on January 20 to 22, 2017.
Following their disbandment, the members returned to their companies and continued with their own works, releasing music and appearing in various TV stints and variety shows.
