"Queen of Pop" Madonna had tons of acting projects also, whilst Lady Gaga headlined the multi-awarded 2018 film "A Star Was Born."
This is also becoming a thing in K-pop, with idols embarking on an acting journey and getting recognition for it. Below, in no particular order, is the list of five of the many Hallyu stars who also slay in the acting arena. Really, you should check their acting projects out.
1. Minho (SHINee)
Many of you may have already seen his acting projects, but if you haven't yet, be sure to check out this hunk idol's A+ acting in the web series "Somehow 18" in 2017, "My First Time" in 2015, "To The Beautiful You" in 2012, and "Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth" in 2016 to 2017 . While Minho is currently serving in the Marine Corps, you can just "replay" SHINee's and his solo track as you wait for his return.
2. Jinyoung (GOT7)
Ahgases can attest that the lead vocalist of one of K-pop's best boy groups is truly a charmer. He may have a sweet, soothing voice, but his chiseled physique will make your head turn for such duality. And what more if you get served with his stellar acting, too? The 25-year-old idol will have you smitten in an instant, with his dramas "He Is Psychometric" (2019) and his cameo role in "Legend of the Blue Sea" (2016-2017).
3. YoonA (Girls' Generation)
YoonA is widely known as the center of the "OG Queens" Girl's Generation, but she is also a queen in the acting field. Her performances in "K2" (2016), "The King in Love" (2017), "Love Rain" (2012), among others are proof that the pioneering idol is multifaceted. She starred in the 2017 film "Confidential Assignment" and just released her latest movie, "EXIT," in August of 2019.
4. IU
Ah, yes. Who would actually forget that IU is more than your sweetheart-looking, outstanding soloist? For many times, the songstress has proven how swift it is for her to dominate the charts and put her listeners on an emotional high with her evocative tracks. But, for multiple times already as well, IU has made it evident that she is a top-notch actress. For several years now, she headlined an array of dramas, such as "Persona" (2019), "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" (2016), and "Hotel de Luna" (2019). If you haven't watched the 2016 drama, spoiler alert: prepare some tissues.
5. D.O. (EXO)
Last but definitely not the least is D.O., or Doh Kyungsoo, none other than the main vocalist of the supergroup EXO. Not only that his powerful voice alone can convert you to becoming an EXO-L or a Dandanie (individual fanbase name for D.O.), his ad-libs are to-die-for, and hearing him sing live is heaven on earth. But apart from his exceptional singing ability, D.O. has broken the "idol-actor" stereotypes and still continues to do so even though he's currently serving in the military. As a matter of fact, he holds a total of 19 awards for his groundbreaking acting in "My Annoying Brother" (2016), "Pure Love" (2016), "Cart" (2014), "Along With The Gods: The Last 49 Days" (2018), "Swing Kinds" (2018), and in the drama "It's Okay, That's Love" (2014).
D.O. is expected to be the main character in the third installment of the serials "Along With The Gods," which is said to come out in 2021, the same year that he will be discharged.
