Titled "We demand severe punishment to those who left hate comments that led to f(x) Sulli's death," the petition stated:
"We demand severe punishment to those who left hate comments that ultimately led to Sulli's death. Others like Jonghyun have suffered from these hate comments which resulted in horrible decisions. If the law isn't changed, more events like this may happen. Please revise the law so that those who leave hate comments may receive severe punishment."
Meanwhile, many fans also expressed their sincerest condolences online and how much this news impacted them.
A fan tweeted:
"I still remember those [days that I was] addicted to your drama. Your pure soul really [gave a] huge impact in my life :) but people were too cruel and harsh on you, honey. I don't want you to leave us this way but I [guess] you [were] hurting [so] damn much all of this time."
Another one said:
"In this tough time in your life, may our friendship, sympathy and heartfelt condolences bring you comfort. You will always be our loved #Sulli"
One account also posted:
"Thank you so much for working hard. I'm sorry for how poorly you were treated. You never deserved that. I'm so sad about how sudden this was but I'm happy to know you're in a better place. You'll never be forgotten and you'll always have a special place in our hearts. RIP"
Meanwhile, an entertainment official came forward to reveal to Busan Report that Sulli repeatedly asked her company SM Entertainment to protect her from rude and vile commenters on the web.
"Sulli had a hard time dealing with the hate comments. She constantly asked her agency to take the proper course of action in dealing with these comments," the official said.
In the interview, it was also revealed that she relayed her plea through her manager but the agency remained passive. In 2018, SM Entertainment said they will be taking appropriate actions against these slanderers.
"The IP address of the user is registered in a foreign country making it hard to search for them. The IP address was made temporarily just for the use of malicious comments, making it hard for us to catch the user," the company stated.
However, for the entertainment official, things could've been better and different if the agency was aggressive in protecting its artists.
