Fans of Yook Sungjae might get down in the dumps soon as the K-pop idol-actor hinted his plans of military enlistment this year. This was his revelation on the SBS show "Master in the House" on its March 15 episode. Aside from his initial plans, he also hinted something about his life.
The episode featured the graduation ceremony of Lee Sang Yoon and BTOB's Yook Sungjae who are the original cast members of the show. Earlier, it was announced that both will be leaving the program for some reasons. Lee Sang Yoon said that he will focus on his acting career, while the former's reason shocked the audience. He mentioned that he is planning to enlist this year.
He hinted, "I will miss the moments while filming. I am totally envious of the person who will replace my position. What about if they perform well than me? If they do, I would feel sad, however, if they don't do well, I would also feel sad as well."
Lee Seung Gi applauded him for telling his real feelings and cracked a joke, "I will not visit you in the military."
He replied, "If I do get some free time, I will reach out to you."
When Yook Sungjae was further asked about his post plans, he answered, "My National Defense duty is something to be regarded. I think it is good to spend some time by myself before I officially join the military enlistment."
The former cast of the popular K-drama "Goblin" might be taking some time to rest based on how he quoted it. However, he did not clarify as to when he will enlist or if ever he will pursue it this year.
If he enlists this year, then he will be joining his BTOB members who are also fulfilling their duties and he will be the fourth member to join them. In 2018, Eunkwang enlisted, followed by Changsub and Minhyuk in 2019.
South Korean male individuals, who are already under the legal age requirement, are obliged to serve this rule regardless of social status; thus, K-pop artists are not exempted.
This is normally perceived by fans, yet, it brings an air of frustration that it will take many months to be active on stage. Yook Sungjae is turning 25 this 2020 and he is on the right moment to push through such a National Defense obligation. He will certainly break thousands of hearts if he finally confirms this move.
Although Yook Sungjae had initially hinted about his future plans, there is no doubt that possible changes would occur, depending on situations. As a K-pop artist and actor, he still has a lot of things to comply under his contract. However, there is a certain age bracket to look into to consider military service.
