Aside from albums, fans are also fanatic of their favorite K-pop idol's official merchandise, whether it's a notebook, pencil case, bag, or even candles! However, what are you going to do when you realized something's wrong with your purchased merch that you saved up for? Well, the following list is SM Entertainment's merch production's embarrassing - and infuriating - mistakes that will leave you doing the facepalm.
It's Ten, not Tae!
SuperM's tote bag has a design that includes the groups' logo and the names of the members in English. However, one fan pointed out a terrible mistake. At the bottom right corner, you can see that Ten's name was misspelled. Instead of Ten, it reads as Tae.
Taemin who? We only know Taenin.
SHINee's youngest member is not Lee Taemin. It's actually Lee Taenin. When you think SM can't misspell another name of their artist, they go and do this during Taemin's 2nd concert. Imagine paying for your favorite idol's merchandise and realizing their name was spelled wrong...by their own agency - a disaster!
TVXQ's new title track: Faith
Maybe the company should hire a better translator for their merchandise department? There was an instance when a fan noticed something wrong after purchasing a cute coin purse from TVXQ's merch line. The item's printed design had the definition of the word "fate" but written at the top was the word "faith," which was the title track of the group at the time. In hindsight, the two words do sound similar to non-native English speakers, but the fan was smart enough to know the difference and shared their discovery with others.
NCT Dream vs. NTC Dream
Don't underestimate NCTzens' observational skills, because one managed to spot this little slip-up by zooming in close to the graphic of a movie clapper with the group's name on it. Upon closer inspection, the NCT Dream suddenly becomes NTC Dream. Three letters and they still got them mixed up. How embarrassing!
Spell-check, please!
Haven't had enough of wrong spellings? How about two mistakes in a single item? An admirer of SNSD was not having it when they received the special edition pin from Girls' Generation's 11th Anniversary Event. The official merch contained a mistake in spelling when it should have been "11th YEAR ANNIVERSARY" it turned into "11th YRAR ANNIVRRSRY." These types of errors will leave you confused if you should laugh or cry out loud.
Byun...Backhyun? Beakhyun?
For the nth time, SM Entertainment faced a technical error in their printing services. However, this time around, it doesn't involve any merch but an actual official album! Just like any other album, EXO's The War includes the lyrics of every song in the last few pages. An EXO-L pointed out how Baekhyun's name was misspelled to Backhyun in the Ko Ko Bop lyrics distribution. Then, just recently, an EXO-L was enraged after seeing Baekhyun's name on SuperM's album spelled as Beakhyun. For the love of God!
SHINee's Intro: EXO'luXion
This Shawol was not having any of SM's excuses. They shared on Twitter an image of SHINee's World IV in Seoul, which is a concert DVD of the group. The poster marked the back of the DVD when she saw an annoying mistake in the item's title, and it read not as SHINee's intro track but instead another group's song. It's evident that SM has a lot of groups under their management, but it's still a disservice to fans to commit mistakes as insignificant as this one.
Fanchant Gone Wrong
Do not mess with ReVeLuvs when SM Entertainment released the official fanchant for Red Velvet's "Umpah Umpah," and they get incorrect lyrics from another SM group. The fan posted a screenshot on Twitter and asked the label to "please do your job properly."
