Although there are plenty of good and well-behaved K-pop fans, many celebrities had to deal with sasaengs throughout their career. A sasaeng is an obsessed fan who performs uncalled-for deeds against their favorite artists and crosses the line by stalking or violating their privacy.
Lee Joon, who was an ex-MBLAQ member, was formerly tailed by a sasaeng to the bathroom. A sasaeng shared, "At the practice room, they follow until the door of the toilet when we go to the bathroom. There are people who are hanging on the bars of the window."
Sasaengs even creep into the homes of their favorite artists to rob their things, such as undergarments. A fan once said, "They sneak into the house and steal celebrities' underwears. I heard they put used sanitary pad in front of celebrity's house."
A sasaeng lounged down for a chat and discussed some lifestyle specifics. Some of the major reasons why sasaengs are behaving so drastically are because they can get attention from their favorite celebrity.
The sasaeng stated, "The celebrities would not know me. But if I become a sasaeng, they recognize me. There thousands of fans at the concert."
Regular fans are typically not acknowledged, but because of their extreme behavior, sasaengs get the attention they think they deserve.
"To sasaeng fans, being recognized by celebrities is good. If I continue, 'Oppa, I am blah blah, I saw you before.' Then they will react like did you come again today?"
Interestingly, sasaengs have other ways of finding out where a personality is headed, including collecting information around on social media platforms.
"For example, if I love a singer, that singer has celebrities who are friends of him. We look at SNS of those celebrities," the sasaeng shared.
"They say where they are and what they are eating. We can find their locations and information by looking at their SNS," they went on.
Seeking personally identifiable information is yet another target that some sasaengs are pursuing, as they could be searching for jobs that allow this role easier.
"Sasaengs who are in their 20s find jobs. One in the telephone company, one in credit card company, one in the internet portal site company, etc. That is how they take out the information of celebrities," the sasaeng revealed.
Sasaengs seem to have no embarrassment about confidentiality, as if the door is opened, they will enter the premises and walk through the door of their favourite artists.
"When we go into the apartment, we act as a daughter or a son of when another neighbour enters the apartment building. Unexpectedly, there are many celebrities who do not lock their doors. They forget to lock their doors or leave quickly," the sasaeng said.
Often, sasaengs go to ridiculous lengths to raise money to support their addiction, and some have even get into prostitution.
Taxis are yet another method used by sasaengs to stalk their favourite artists. Sasaengs often handle regular fans roughly, as they think they deserve preference over "less devoted" supporters.
