While they do make things appear natural and easy, idols' experiences are very far from easy and convenient. TWICE's Jihyo and Mina talked about both the physical and emotional difficulties that they have experienced, and also provided uplifting words to those who are chasing their goals in life.
Then again, the positive moments they share with their co-members and fans made all of it worthwhile. This is why while on a question and answer session with Interview Magazine, they didn't hesitate to talk about things young people must keep in mind when trying to pursue their dreams.
Jihyo, as the leader, has taken a significant approach to words of wisdom. She accepted that continuing to work to become an idol isn't something to be taken lightly. It takes time and hard effort that can sometimes feel overwhelming.
The singer said, "I know very well that it could be challenging to chase your hopes and aspirations, but try not to lose sight of what you've been looking for and keep doing your best."
Life is unexpected and the opportunity to work towards becoming an idol may show up at any certain moment. Mina then advised aspiring K-pop stars that they should be prepared to take that leap and go forward with full steam.
"When the chance arises and comes to you, you wouldn't know, but it's necessary to motivate yourself and go there for it," Mina said.
Essentially, if your goal is to be a star, Mina and Jihyo wouldn't want to see you beaten by those tough times. Whatever barriers are in the way, sharpen the abilities and move ahead to accomplish that.
How Jihyo became a K-pop star
JYP Entertainment approached Jihyo after she actively participated in a Junior Naver competition and placed second. She then decided to join JYP Entertainment as an eight-year-old trainee and trained for ten years before her actual debut.
Jihyo was widely recognized as the face of teen line Innisfree with boy group Boyfriend throughout her trainee days. She was given training by many JYP icons, which include Sunmi, Bae Suzy, Jo Kwon, Nichkhun, and others. Jihyo, Nayeon, Jeongyeon, and Sana were set to launch in a girl band, but this didn't push through.
How Mina was discovered
Mina was buying something in Osaka with her mom when a JYP recruitment team approached her and decided to offer an audition. She traveled to South Korea in 2014 and became a trainee under JYP Entertainment.
Mina competed in the South Korean television series "Sixteen" in 2015, broadcast by JYP Entertainment and co-produced by Mnet. Soon enough, she joined the newly established girl group TWICE as one of nine successful participants of the show.
