If you've been into K-pop for a while, then you might have heard the word "sasaeng" thrown around one time or another. A sasaeng is someone who is an intense fan of someone - whether for one member, person, or a whole group - who has reached the point of obsession. Sasaengs disregard any privacy a celebrity has and stalk their favorites, with some even going as far as to figure out what flights they are on or where they live. Some do this to get noticed by their idols or think that it's the way of showing who they love.
A number of K-pop idols have unpleasant experiences because of sasaengs, but would you believe that there are actually some idols who have been revealed to be sasaengs themselves? Check out who these idols are below.
1. Dahyun
In 2015, a trainee named Dahyun was to make her debut in the group Pink Lace. Netizens, however, had uncovered that Dahyun was actually a sasaeng fan and was obsessed with EXO's maknae, Sehun. People posted proof, screenshots of her numerous comments under her Instagram to Pann.
She would leave comments telling Sehun about her upcoming debut with the group and even said she wanted to meet up with him to give him their album. Netizens also found out that she was always tagging Sehun in her photos, as well as other EXO members.
International fans quickly found out about her and flooded her Instagram with negative comments, with some even calling her a "Gangnam Plastic Monster," insinuating that she had a lot of plastic surgery done to her face. Dahyun ended up deleting her Instagram and there was no news of Pink Lace ever debuting, though there were some news at the time stating that an unnamed girl group had their debut pushed back because a member violated her contract
2. Trinity (formerly of GLAM)
GLAM was a girl group under Big Hit Entertainment that debuted in 2012 and are well-known as the only girl group Big Hit Entertainment has ever debuted to date. Despite being moderately successful, they were disbanded due to a string of controversies.
This is one of them.
Former member Trinity had left the group after some time due to personal reasons. When this was announced, netizens uncovered that she was actually a sasaeng to Super Junior's Leeteuk. In an old post, it was revealed that she lied and told people she was the daughter of a CEO of a broadcasting agency just so she could get into the meeting rooms of Super Junior. Because of this, all of Super Junior knew who Trinity was.
3. Diamond Zhang
Diamond was first introduced to the mainstream market when she competed on "The Voice China," winning her season in 2014. Before that though, she made her debut in the K-pop girl group Sunny Days under Haeun Entertainment in 2013, but she left the group in 2014.
As her fame started to rise, people started digging into her past. There, they found out that she was one of the four biggest EXO sasaengs in China. These sasaengs were so well-known for their obsessive behavior that they were literally called "THE four sasaengs."
One of the most extreme things she did was wait outside EXO's dorm for two days and one night with a group of friends in the hopes that they will see the members. She and her friends had called the experience a "memorable experience we will never forget."
Despite people finding out about this, Diamond Zhang is still successful in China, singing soundtracks for dramas and movies. She sang the Mandarin version of "A Whole New World" for the live-action Aladdin movie. There is no record of her speaking about her sasaeng past.
