If you are not aware of it already, the term Kpop refers to a popular genre of mainstream music that originated in South Korea. In addition to Korean pop, this fairly new form of music also includes electronic music, hip hop, and rock. In recent years, several Kpop superstars have grabbed the headline not only for their musical prowess but also for their affinity for plastic surgery.
Seoul is currently known as the world's unofficial plastic surgery capital. Many believe that the nation's obsession with surgical procedures is primarily because of its music scene, where cosmetic enhancements are considered to be the norm. Countless K-pop stars have openly confessed to have undergone cosmetic procedures such as nose jobs, double eyelid surgery, jaw correction, and much more.
Carolina Facial Plastics reveals the names of some of the most well-known Kpop stars and groups that have reportedly gone under the knives for cosmetic enhancements.
Hyomin from T-ARA:
Park Sun-Young, popularly known as Hyomin, is the lead vocalist and rapper for T-ARA, a group that debuted in 2009. She has always been extremely open about discussing her plastic surgery in public. She feels that looking good is a part of entertaining a lot of people and there is no harm in fixing a few things in order to live up to those expectations.
Six Bomb:
Previously a six-member group, this is currently a group comprising of four girls. In the history of Kpop, they made the boldest statement in favor of plastic surgery by releasing songs about the surgical transformation of its members. Pacemaker Entertainment, the group's record company, spent around 100 million South Korean Won to release a video showing the group members dancing around an operating room, revealing their transformed faces. According to the manager of the group, the girls went through almost all types of face enhancement procedures as well as breast enlargement. However, the reaction from the fans was largely negative as many of them suggested that the money could have been spent on improving Six Bomb's production quality.
Narsha from Brown Eyed Girls:
Another Kpop quartet, the Brown Eyed Girls has never been shy to talk about their use of plastic surgery. The group's lead vocalist Narsha has no qualms accepting that plastic surgery made her a happier and prettier individual while she was preparing to appear on a popular Korean talk show. Narsha feels that celebrities often feel depressed because of the flaws in their appearance and hence, pay more attention to enhancing their appearance.
Shindong from Super Junior:
Super Junior arrived at the Kpop scene in 2005, and quickly gained significant traction beyond Korea. Almost all members of this group are rumored to have undergone some kind of cosmetic procedure. Shindong, one of the group members has revealed that his management pressurized him to undergo cosmetic surgery.
Hwang Chi Yeul:
Since the release of his debut album 2007, solo artist Hwang Chi Yeul has been a familiar name in the Kpop scene. In several instances, this ballad singer has openly discussed his nose job.
Uee from After School:
This all-girl group earned international acclaim when Rolling Stone referred to it as the Pussycat Dolls' Korean version. Uee, currently one of the group's graduate members, has admitted that she had minor surgery on her eyes to even out her naturally uneven eyes.
Kwanghee from ZE: A:
Kwanghee is the sub-vocalist of the nine-member group ZE: A, and is considered to be its official face. He has never been hesitant to discuss his plastic surgery. He mentions that his plastic surgeries were inspired by Kim Hyung Jun senior, a member of another Kpop group named SS501.
