While others leave the girls following a scandal or after losing popularity, these idols left the groups suddenly, leaving fans worried and curious as to why they chose to depart from their group.
1. Yeonwoo, Taeha, and Daisy
In 2019, MLD Entertainment announced that Taeha and Yeonwoo would be leaving MOMOLAND. While some had suspected Taeha, who had not participated in the latest comeback at the time, "I'm So Hot", fans were surprised to hear Yeonwoo would be leaving the group, as she was active in the majority of their schedules up until it was announced she would be leaving.
In June 2020, Yeonwoo posted to her fan cafe alluding that she may have been kicked out of the group rather than leaving by her own free will. She is currently signed as an actress under MLD Entertainment while Taeha left the company.
Daisy left the group in 2020, but she is still under MLD Entertainment. She previously had a conflict with the company, as she exposed that the line-up of "Finding Momoland", the survival show that created the group, was rigged and the production costs were meant to be paid by the members.
2. Woojin
In 2019, JYP Entertainment made a shocking statement when they announced that the main vocals of Stray Kids Woojin would be leaving the group and terminating his contract with the company after just a year of promotions. The company cited "personal reasons" as to why he left but did not go further than that. The group was meant to have a comeback at the time, but it was postponed following news of Woojin's departure,
Though the reason for him leaving was never stated, many assumed he was kicked out for breaking company rules. Stray Kids' leader Bang Chan made an ambiguous statement on Vlive, saying that he knew someone who made mistakes and had to face the consequences, and it is those mistakes that ended up affecting lots of people. He also said that if you make a promise to a team, you need to be responsible and keep said promises.
3. Im Junhyeok
Junhyeok was formerly a member of DAY6 and debuted with the band in 2015. However, in 2016, JYP Entertainment announced that he would be leaving the group and company due to personal reasons. Like Woojin, said "personal reason" was never specified, but some people believe that he got kicked out of the group for dating a fan. If so, it means he broke JYP Entertainment's rule that bans their artists from dating for the first three years of their careers.
4. Jessica
Jessica was removed from Girls' Generation's line-up in 2014, seven years after her debut. She had placed a statement on her Weibo account, saying that she had been forced out of the group. SM Entertainment confirmed she would be leaving, saying that she would no longer be part of the group. Jessica also released a statement through her fashion company, Blanc Group, saying SM Entertainment and her members had asked her to leave. SM Entertainment managed her solo activities for a while until she left the company in 2015.
5. Mirae, Kokoro, Linlin
Mirae, Kokoro, and Linlin debuted with Cherry Bullet in 2018. The three members had stopped promoting with the group prior to their departure from the group and despite fans wondering where they were, FNC had not given a statement on their whereabouts until it was final they would be leaving the group. No reason was given as to why the girls left the group, with FNC Entertainment merely saying they had discussions with the members and ended their contracts.
6. Gugudan
In 2020, member Sally shockingly revealed that Jellyfish Entertainment told the girls to leave their dorm and never return unless asked. The girls have had no activities together since 2018, causing many to speculate that they have unofficially disbanded. All the members are doing solo activities, with Sally participating in Tencent's "Produce Camp 2020" and making the final line-up. She will be making her debut with BonBon Girls 303. Jellyfish Entertainment has not given a statement on the Gugudan's status as a group.
