Singers AleXa and Sonnet Son made an appearance in the latest episode of KBS' "Immortal Songs" and took home the crown after performing BTS's hit single "DNA."
On a Saturday (Nov. 14) episode of "Immortal Songs," participants sang hits created by BTS and their frequent producer and collaborator Pdogg. Sonnet Son and AleXa faced off with five other artists, each with a BTS hit in their arsenal. Participants included artists Sunwoo Jung-a who sang "Fake Love," and Yook Jong-wan Band with their version of "Blood Sweat & Tears."
They swept the audience and the BTS members themselves, as the duo turned the upbeat EDM-Pop "DNA" into a powerful spectacle infused with rock elements. Sonnet Son was dressed in a black ensemble - vest, shorts with chains, and high-cut boots - that turned her into a rockstar for the performance. Her effortless belting of notes and even her rap lines only served to elevate the performance even higher.
On the other hand, the American-born AleXa led the dance solo in an equally stunning black outfit. Her green hair, black dress, and gray skirt complemented Sonnet Son as much as their vocals in delivering the latter part of "DNA."
During the winners' announcement, Sonnet Son and Alexa were on the blue side against the upcoming K-Pop boy group BAE173. The duo was ultimately announced as the winner of the episode.
Sonnet Son and Alexa
The South Korean singer Sonnet Son was born Son Seung-yeon on September 15, 1993. She began her national appearance as a contestant on the 2012 Mnet reality singing competition "The Voice of Korea," where she emerged as the winner.
Her performance with AleXa is the latest in a long string of appearances for the television show "Immortal Songs." Sonnet Son is a frequent guest on the show starting from her first appearance with The One, in a performance of Lee Chi-hyun's "Before It Fades Away," in the June 14, 2014 episode. She has also made several appearances in the MBC singing competition "King of Mask Singer."
Meanwhile, her partner in the latest "Immortal Songs" performance, AleXa, was born Alexandra Christine Schneiderman on December 9, 1996, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the US. First making her appearance as Alex Christine, she joined the "Rising Legends" online audition run by online K-Pop portal Soompi, with support from JYP Entertainment, in 2016. A year later, she rejoined the competition, this time with Soompi teaming up with Cube Entertainment. She placed first in the dance category for both of her auditions. However, she did not end up with either JYP or Cube. Instead, she signed with production company Zanybros' ZB Label and trained for more than two years. In October 2019, she made her debut as a solo artist with the single "Bomb."
AleXa has also recently released her latest single, "Revolution," accompanied by a music video on her official YouTube channel. Her action-packed music video for "Revolution" has already garnered more than five and a half million views as of this article.
