BTS, IU, and More Win at the 2020 APAN Popularity Awards

The final results of the "2020 APAN Awards" popularity award were released.

The popularity awards are based on votes through the Idol Champion from Oct. 27 to Nov. 27. People could vote for their favorite male soloist, female soloist, boy group, girl group, male actor, and female actor. Overseas votes could also select who they wanted to win, and their number one would go under the overseas category.

Best Male Soloist

For both the domestic and international voting, Kang Daniel ranked at number one. Kang Daniel originally debuted as a member of the project group Wanna One following his appearance on "Produce 101 Season 2". Following the group's disbandment, Kang Daniel took a six-month hiatus from entertainment and returned as a soloist.

Best Female Soloist

For the domestic voting, IU took the throne as the best female soloist. IU is known as the "Nation's Little Sister" due to her innocent, girl-next-door image. IU has recognized as one of the most successful artists in South Korea. In 2017, she was named the most popular idol in South Korea in an annual survey by Gallup Korea.

For international voting, Hwasa was named as the "Best Female Soloist." Hwasa made her debut in the K-pop industry as a member of the RBW girl group MAMAMOO in 2014. She debuted as a soloist in 2019 with the digital single "TWIT" and released her first extended play, "Maria," in 2020.

Best Male Group

For the domestic voting, the "Princes of Pop" BTS was named the best male group! BTS debuted in 2013 under Big Hit Entertainment and comprised seven members, RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. On Nov. 20, the group released their fifth studio album, "BE."

In the international voting sector, SEVENTEEN was named as the best male group. SEVENTEEN is a thirteen-member boy group under Pledis Entertainment. The group is composed of members S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon, and DIno. A month ago, SEVENTEEN made headlines due to their album "Home;Run" being their second album to sell over one million copies.

Best Female Group

For the domestic voting, IZ*ONE came out on top as the best female group. IZ*ONE is a girl group managed by Off the Record and Swing Entertainment and was formed through the survival show "Produce 48". The group comprises Eunbi, Sakura, Hyewon, Yena, Chaeyeon, Chaewon, Minju, Nako, Hitomi, Yuri, Yujin, and Wonyoung. The group is slated for a December comeback.

For the international category, BLACKPINK was named the best girl group. The YG Entertainment girl group debuted in 2016 and comprised of members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa. Previously, the group released their first full-length album, "THE ALBUM" released a Netflix documentary film titled "BLACKPINK: Light Up The Sky."

Other than the main categories, there were also the "Male Entertainer Award" and the "Female Entertainer Award." Soloist Park Jihoon was given the male version of the award, while LOONA's Chuu earned the female version.

Additionally, BTS member V's song "Sweet Night" for Itaewon Class" was given the "OST Award."

Actor Kim Soo Hyun was given the "Best Actor" award, and actress Seo Ye Ji was awarded the "Best Actress" award. Both worked on the drama "It's Okay Not To Be Okay." Seo Ye Ji won the "KT SeenZn Star Award" for the acting category, and Kang Daniel won the same award for the singers' category.
