To bring K-Pop artists and their fans closer, the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) has collaborated with social media platform Twitter to release the "2020 MAMA Stanbot."
Aside from the "Stanbot," the MAMA-Twitter team-up also brings the "Worldwide Fans' Choice" voting to be held on the global social media platform. Through the hashtag #2020MAMA, the Stanbot will be capturing the looks and moments of K-pop artists present at the 2020 MAMA - recognized as one of Korea's largest awards event.
Among the features promised by the Stanbot include high quality, slow-motion cinematics of some of the world's favorite K-pop acts who will be attending the prestigious awards night. Of course, these exclusive and never before seen materials will only be available on Twitter. Furthermore, the social media platform will also provide special emojis to accompany MAMA-related hashtags #2020MAMA, #MAMAVOTE, and #2020MAMA_Stanbot.
On the other hand, the voting process for MAMA's Worldwide Fans' Choice has already opened last October 29, 6:00 PM KST and is set to close on December 5, 11:59 PM KST. However, voting will still go on Twitter until the social networking sites (SNS) voting is formally closed during the 2020 MAMA live event on December 6. Voting instructions are available on the 2020 MAMA website.
For fans looking to vote their idols on Worldwide Fans' Choice via Twitter, simply include the #MAMAVOTE hashtag as well as the artists' official hashtag, usually in the format #ARTISTNAME. The MAMA Twitter account (@MnetMAMA) has released a list of hashtags to help fans decide the results of major awards categories, such as "Artist of the Year," "Song of the Year" and more.
"From #MAMAVOTE and #2020MAMA_Stanbot to keeping updated on everything happening on MAMA via Tweets and Fleets, Twitter is the best place for global K-Pop fans to join in the 2020 MAMA event, find out what's happening in real-time, and to talk about it with other K-Pop fans." said YeonJeong Kim, Head of Global Kpop Partnerships at Twitter.
About the Mnet Asian Music Awards
The Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) is organized by South Korean entertainment and mass media giant CJ E&M, with the event being hosted and broadcast by its music channel Mnet. With its elaborate stage production, gigantic performances, and the large gathering of the South Korean and international music industry's brightest stars, the MAMA event has become a highly-anticipated event all over the world.
Its first awards ceremony was first held in Seoul in 1999, being aired on Mnet. Between 2010 and 2017, MAMA has been held outside South Korea, mostly in Hong Kong starting in 2012. It has grown to involve its Asian neighbors, encouraging interaction and exchange between the countries' respective music industries.
The 2020 MAMA, which marks the 22nd iteration of the music awards, will also mark the first time that MAMA will only be hosted in South Korea largely because of the global coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, the ceremony themed "NEW-TOPIA" will have no live audience in compliance with health and safety protocols.
