KBS has finally responded to fans who have been requesting Kim Junsu's appearance on Music Bank
Kim Junsu, who is also known by his stage name XIA, recently returned to the K-Pop scene with a new mini-album, and normally, fans want to see him perform on stage as this would give the artist a chance to promote his latest release, as well as to be able to greet his fans.
The popular solo artist and also a former member of JYJ has been requested to be included in the lineup of performing artists on KBS's Music Bank several times, but there has been no success. And recently, KBS has finally spoken up about the matter, explaining to fans why Kim Junsu's appearance on Music Bank can't immediately take place.
KBS detailed that Music Bank is a show that computes the rankings according to broadcast views, album sales, music sales, and viewer preferences throughout the week. "Because of this, we cannot say whether or not a singer will make an appearance on the show. It's also hard to reveal why some artists do not get to promote on our program," KBS added.
They went on to disclose how they select the artists that will be featured on Music Bank. KBS said that the selection process of artists that will be featured on the show involves eliminating other singers who could have been on the program. They continued that if they would explain why some are chosen while others are not, it won't look good for both sides. "With that said, KBS is going to work harder and try to give chances to different artists in the future. Thank you," they concluded.
Junsu is well-known for being a former member of the boy group TVXQ under SM Entertainment. He left the band back in 2010 in possibly one of K-Pop's complicated scandals. After claiming that the profit distribution was uneven and that their 13-year contract with the label was too long, Junsu, together with former TVXQ members Jaejoong and Yoochun, filed a lawsuit against SME to terminate their contracts.
The trio then later became JYJ and continued to promote in Japan for more than half a year until their Japanese company, Avex, one-sidedly suspended their activities in 2010 and focused more on supporting the two remaining members of the original group, U-Know Yunho and Max Changmin. This resulted in JYJ filing an injunction to terminate their contracts with Avex. JYJ ended the legal battles with SM Entertainment in 2012 and with Avex in 2013.
At present, Kim Junsu or XIA is under C-JeS Entertainment, together with his JYJ member Jaejoong. Yoochun retired from the industry in April 2019 after he tested positive for drugs. Following his military discharge in November 2018, Junsu returned to the stage to play his role of Death in the musical "Elizabeth." He then starred in the musical "Xcalibur" as King Arthur from June to August 2019.
And this past November, XIA released the mini-album "Pit a Pat," which is his first music in more than four years since his fourth solo album "Xignature" in May 2016.
