SM Entertainment released an official statement, on Thursday, Dec. 17, after South Korean singer BoA was accused of violating the regulations on imported drugs after she allegedly failed to provide customs clearance.
SM Entertainment Apologized, Asked Forgiveness to Fans
The agency claimed, in its official statement, that BoA has nothing to do with the violation. In fact, SM Entertainment explained that an employee based in its overseas office was not fully aware of trade and customs rules and regulations.
The worker, reportedly, delivered the medicine to a local post office sans all the necessary papers and clearances. BoA's agency, then, claimed that the employee did not know anything illegal as it was only a mistake by ignorance.
For starters, BoA was prescribed to take sleeping pills as she has not been getting enough rest, causing a significant decrease in her growth hormone. However, the doctor did not fail to warn the "Atlantis Princess" singer that taking the drug might have side effects, which include digestive disorders and dizziness.
BoA stated that the worker in question has been very cooperative with the investigation and vowed not to make the same mistake again. According to the "Only One" singer, the employee told the authorities that the medicine was for BoA and even explained all the supporting data at hand.
SM Entertainment assured the authorities that they would reinforce a multi-disciplinary training for all of their workers in the days to come to prevent this mistake from happening again. In the end, the agency promised to look at the case and apologized for the inconvenience it caused to several people.
BoA Celebrated Her 20-Year Anniversary in the Entertainment Scene
Meanwhile, BoA revealed, in an online press conference earlier this month, that she spent a lot of time thinking about what she should do for her 20th anniversary in showbiz. The "Eat You Up" songstress said she realized she wanted to record an album with a lighter heart.
On Dec. 1, BoA released her 10th studio album titled "Better." The songstress' new EP has 11 songs, and she wrote three of these tracks. She then revealed that "Better," which was written by Yoo Young Jin, has made her recount the first few years of her career as a singer.
BoA said that "Better" featured a revamped version of her legendary "girl-crush" dance numbers that come with heart-stopping performances. She added that the song gives her mixed feelings, especially since it got her, producer You Young Jun and SM Entertainment founder Lee Soo Man together again.
The "Every Heart" hitmaker also divulged that she had an argument with Lee Soo Man about the official music video of "Better," adding that their relationship is like the famous cartoon characters Tom and Jerry. Despite their differences, BoA said she is grateful and happy that she can still produce music with the agency's top figures, who also worked hard to introduce K-Pop to the other parts of the world.
