Following reports that GOT7 member Jinyoung was planning to leave JYP Entertainment, the company released a statement concerning the matter. Keep on reading to learn more.
On Wednesday, Dec. 23, entertainment media outlet TV Daily reported that Jinyoung recently had several meetings with BH Entertainment and was positively discussing signing an exclusive contract. According to the report, Jinyoung also had meetings with other companies but was leaning towards BH Entertainment.
JYP Entertainment has since released a short statement, saying, "It is true that GOT7's contract will be expiring around next month, January. We are currently discussing various possible outcomes with the members concerning the direction they wish to take in the future."
The agency and Jinyoung are currently still in discussions of contract renewals. GOT7's exclusive contracts with JYP Entertainment will expire in late January of next year. Currently, it is unknown if the other members of the group plan to remain under JYP Entertainment or will be pursuing other agencies.
BH Entertainment has also commented on the reports, saying, "We have not heard anything about an exclusive contract." However, they did not confirm nor deny having met with GOT7's Jinyoung. BH Entertainment is an acting agency that houses popular names such as Lee Byun Hun, Park Bo Young, Han Ji Min, Go Soo, and Kim Go Eun.
Jinyoung has been under JYP Entertainment ever since 2009 when he first signed on to the label as a trainee. He trained for two years before debuting as an actor in the drama "Dream High 2." A year later, he, alongside fellow GOT7 member JB, debuted as a duo called JJ Project.
He debuted under the stage name JR with GOT7 in 2014. Two years later, he starred in his first film titled "A Stray Goat," an independent film direct by Cho Jae Min. That same year, he bagged a supporting role in the drama "Legend of the Blue Sea," which earned him fame as an actor.
Currently, Jinyoung is juggling his activities as an idol and an actor. Some of his most famous dramas include "When a Man Falls in Love," "He is Psychometric" and "When My Love Blooms." He also acts in the movie "The Angel Without, The Devil Within" and "Yacha." He is set to star as the main lead in the upcoming tvN drama "The Devil Judge."
With GOT7, the group released their eleventh extended play on April 20 titled "Dye" with the lead single "Not By the Moon." The extended play sold 159,098 copies on its first day and sold 281,791 in the first week, breaking their personal record for both first day and first-week sales. "Dye" also debuted on the Billboard Albums chart at number four.
On Nov. 30, GOT7 released their first studio album, "Breath of Love: Last Piece". To hype the album, the group released the pre-release single, "Breath." The song was added to the album alongside the title track, "Last Piece."
