Sandara Park, who is popularly known as DARA, and iKON member Jay surprised fans when they released a cover of Iñigo Pascual's "Dahil Sayo" on Thursday, Dec. 24, the official YouTube channel of the former 2NE1 member called DaraTV.
The duo appears stunning in the clip, wherein they both wore matching red outfits. DARA and iKON member Jay even showed off some dance moves. The "Fire" singer even flaunted her skills in rapping, which she also does when she was still a part of 2NE1 alongside Park Bom, CL, and Minzy.
The video has garnered almost 400,000 views and more than 105,000 likes already. Avid followers of DARA and iKON member Jay also expressed their adoration for the two K-Pop artists for singing a Tagalog song.
One netizen stated she appreciates the efforts Jay had put in singing "Dahil Ikaw" even though he is not fluent with the Filipino language, before adding that the clip made her proud of DARA even more. Another YouTube commenter said that she is proud and blessed to have someone like the former 2NE1 member, who continues to show the world how beautiful the Philippine culture is, and even called the songstress the "Pambansang Krungkrung."
A third netizen claimed it is impossible not to like DARA because of her ethereal beauty and undeniable talent, adding that she is the K-Pop idol who deserves the attention of Filipinos, among others. Another YouTube user shared that the vocals of DARA and iKON member Jay blend well together that she could not stop listening to their cover over and over again.
The trending video came a week after DARA revealed how she loves eating tocino (sweetened bacon) for breakfast. The "I Don't Care" hitmaker even took to Twitter to share that she found an authentic Filipino restaurant in Seoul City, South Korea. DARA divulged that she ordered kang-kong (river spinach), garlic rice, sisig (pig's head salad), and a popular Philippine-made beer when she decided to dine.
For starters, DARA first entered the Philippines' entertainment industry in 2004. She was one of the early favorites in the reality-based star search show titled "Star Circle Quest," where she finished as a runner-up to Hero Angeles. Apart from Hero and DARA, Filipino artists Melissa Ricks, Roxanne Ginoo, and Joross Gamboa were also part of the final five.
After her stint in "Star Circle Quest," DARA was tapped to star in movies with Hero Angeles as her leading man. The pair debuted in the 2004 film called "Because of You," followed by the 2005 movie "Can This Be Love." The "I Am the Best" songstress also appeared in "Super Noypi," "D Lucky Ones," and "My Ex and Whys."
In 2007, DARA went back to South Korea together with her family and, later, signed up with YG Entertainment. She was then launched as a member of 2NE1, which was considered one of the most famous K-pop acts between 2009 and 2016. However, DARA, Park Bom, CL, and Minzy decided to part ways to pursue solo careers after a hiatus.
