Gugudan Sally's Recent Posts Gain Attention In Light of Group's Disbandment

Amid the saddening news that Gugudan will be disbanding after four years, Sally's recent posts on Instagram are catching the attention of fans.

On Dec. 30, Jellyfish Entertainment announced that Gugudan will conclude all its group activities today, Dec. 31, marking their disbandment. The label shared the unexpected news through the official fan café, in which they said that the decision was made after an in-depth and long discussion with the members.

Despite this, Jellyfish Entertainment stated that they will continue to support the members' future solo activities, either in the music or acting fields. The agency also asked fans to still send the group love and support as they go their own paths.

Ahead of the official announcement, Gugudan's Sally seemed to have hinted at the disbandment of the girl group through social media. Earlier this month, the female idol took to her own Instagram to upload photos along with captions, which appear to indirectly tell fans about the future of Gugudan.

One of the posts was a picture of a view outside a plane window, together with the caption, "If time can go back to 6 years ago." The following image, which is another view outside a window, was captioned, "I wouldn't let myself regret."

What adds to the idea of Gugudan disbanding is the fact that member Sejeong left a comment on Sally's post, giving words of encouragement. She wrote, "Let's believe that you're only here now because you were there at that time. We did a good job hanging on. Thank you, Sally."

Last June, Gugudan's Sally made a revelation, shocking many people. During an interview in the Chinese survival show, "Produce Camp 2020 (also called CHUANG 2020)," the singer confessed that she had difficult times being a member of Gugudan. She shared how she sensed the huge gap in fame between the two well-known members and the rest of the group. Sally also mentioned the two members having fans already, so the public focuses on them more.

While Gugudan's Sally didn't name these two members, many believe she is referring to Sejeong and Mina, who are both best known as previous contestants on the first season of Mnet's "Produce 101," as well as the former members of the show's produced girl group called I.O.I, short for "Ideal of Idol." A month after I.O.I's debut, Sejeong and Mina debuted, once again, as members of Gugudan.

Sally went on to disclose that Jellyfish Entertainment told her to go back home in early 2019 and never return. Her fellow Gugudan members were also instructed to do the same. Some of them tried convincing the agency to let them stay, but all of them ended up leaving because they had no other choice.

Liu Xiening, better known by her stage name Sally, trained for only five months under Jellyfish Entertainment and debuted as the vocalist, lead dancer, and lead rapper of Gugudan in June 2016. The girl group, which initially consists of nine members, had its last comeback in November 2018 with its third extended play titled "Act. 5 New Action."
