BTS, Red Velvet, and More: Gaon Chart Reveals The Songs That Accumulated The Most Points in 2020

Now that 2020 has come to an end, the Gaon Charts announced which release was the most successful of the year. As one of the major music charts in South Korea, it is considered a huge indicator of how popular a song was in the country. Recently, the charts released which idol songs accumulated the most points this year.

The song that accumulated the most points is Red Velvet's hit song, "Psycho"! Though it was released in Dec. 2019, it has been considered an early 2020 release as it was released at the end of the year. The song earned 694 million points in 2020.

"Psycho" is one of Red Velvet's most popular song to date, with music critics praising the song for being both smooth and sultry, which is different from most groups who preferred a catchy yet structured way of music production. It was a commercial success in South Korea, peaking at number two on the Gaon Digital Chart for three consecutive weeks. It also peaked at number three on the Gaon Monthly Digital Chart and topped the Gaon Download Chart for two weeks. In the West, it debuted at number nine on the Billboard K-pop Hot 100 and at the top of the World Digital Songs Chart.

The song was featured in Paper Magazine's "The 40 Best K-Pop Songs of 2020" at number 1, despite it being a 2019 release. It was praised by the Whole Tone online magazine for being one of the most impressive works by a K-pop artist over the past year.

The song with the second-most points on the Gaon Chart is BTS with their first all-English single, "Dynamite", which was released in Aug. 2020. It garnered 684 million points. Of course, it's no surprise that the song is ranked so high. Though it debuted at number six on the Gaon Digital Chart, it immediately rose to the top spot the following week. It remained at the top position for seven consecutive weeks, tying with "Any Song" by Zico for the longest-charting number one song on the Gaon Digital Chart.

"Dynamite" was the best-selling song in South Korea for both Sept. and Oct. 2020. In the West, "Dynamite" debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, marking the first time an all-South Korean musical act ever hit number one in the United States. It also topped the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excluding the U.S. charts.

From 3-10, the idol group songs with the most points on the Gaon chart are:
