The Gaon Chart recently issued its annual recap of best songs and albums released in 2020, and it includes works from Zico, IU, BTS, NCT, and more.
The Gaon Music Chart records and arranges the weekly and monthly popularity of songs or albums launched in South Korea each year. It provides results like the Billboard charts of the United States and the Oricon charts of Japan. There are two main charts: Gaon Digital Chart and Gaon Album chart, both of which rank the sales of domestic and international artists.
On Friday, Jan. 8, Gaon Chart and its primary association, the Korea Music Contents Association, published its official yearly chart summary for 2020.
The No. 1 Song of 2020
According to this 2020 recap, Zico's "Any Song" managed to earn a triple crown as the No. 1 digital single this past year. It is also the most-downloaded and most-streamed song of 2020. "Any Song" is defined as an easy-going single in which the Block B member presents his versatile talent as both a vocalist and rapper.
The Gaon Chart also revealed the songs that simultaneously topped both the weekly digital singles chart and weekly streaming chart for five weeks in a row or more in 2020. It includes Zico's "Any Song," BTS's "Dynamite" (seven weeks straight), SSAK3's "Beach Again," and VVS (feat. JUSTHIS and prod. by GroovyRoom)" by Show Me The Money 9.

The No. 1 Album of 2020
The Gaon Chart's official No. 1 album of 2020 goes to BTS's "Map of the Soul: 7" which was released on Feb. 21. The past year marked BTS's fifth year to top Gaon Chart's yearly album sales chart, with the first one being "WINGS" in 2016. Additionally, BTS's "Map of the Soul: 7" becomes the very first Korean album in the history of the Gaon Chart to receive a "Quadruple Million" certification after selling more than 4 million album copies in the whole year.
Recently, the album has been revealed to be the second top-selling album in the United States, earning a total of 1.54 million copies. Also, it claimed the No. 1 spot on the Top 10 best-selling physical albums in the US.

The Most-Listened-To Artists of 2020
The most-listened-to artist in 2020 on different Korean music streaming platforms were BTS and solo artist IU. Based on the Gaon Chart's yearly recap, the boy band had the most number of songs recorded on the chart's Top 200 songs list for 2020. In particular, BTS had 19 songs. IU came in second place having eight tracks on the list.

The Artist with the Most Number of Albums Released in 2020
Korean group NCT issued a total of five physical albums throughout 2020, including albums by NCT Dream, NCT 127, and NCT 2020 or the whole band. All five albums of NCT received certification from the Gaon Chart for their impressive album sales. For the whole year, the boy band recorded a total of 4.5 million sales.
The Most Beloved OST of 2020
In 2020, the OST album of tvN's "Hospital Playlist" received the most support from fans. Eight tracks from the compilation, including Jo Jung Suk's "Aloha" made it to the Gaon's annual Top 200 Digital Singles chart. Upon its release, the song topped music charts and even earning a double crown after ranking first both on the digital and streaming charts for the week ending on April 25.
