On Saturday, Jan. 9, the Golden Disc Awards kicked off its first day with a star-studded lineup. One of the most-awaited artists of the night was MAMAMOO member Hwasa, but she had people shaking their heads over her unique outfit. Keep on reading to learn more.
During the red carpet event, Hwasa surprised in a wine-colored leather halter with extremely short velvet black shorts, cinched in together with a simple black belt. To match her shorts, Hwasa was also seen wearing black velvet gloves. She pulls the lock together with black mesh stockings and a pair of simple black heels. Her hair is pulled into a nice, tight ponytail.
Hwasa surprised viewers with her sexy outfit. Her top reveals her entire back and most of her skin is showing, despite how the weather in South Korea on Jan. 9 had reached the negatives (Celsius). In fact, that day, the coldest it was was -9 degrees celsius and the warmest was 0 degrees celsius. It was freezing!
While the outfit is gorgeous, Hwasa was criticized for wearing shorts that were considered too short by viewers. Hwasa wore that same outfit for her performance for "Maria", and people claimed that she was very close to revealing sensitive body parts to viewers due to the powerful and intense choreography. Many stated that one small move, and she could have revealed parts of her that she would not want to be on air.
However, not everyone was so negative. There are people who praised the idol for her healthy and glamorous figure. Hwasa is 27 years old in Korea (25 years old internationally), and she is old enough to wear whatever makes her comfortable and confident.
As many fans know, this is not the first time Hwasa has appeared on the red carpet and on stage wearing sexy, body-hugging clothing. The idol is known for challenging beauty standards and what is considered beautiful. She often goes against the status quo and has no issue embracing her sensuality and femininity. In a culture where most people are still conservative, Hwasa is a breath of fresh air.
At the Golden Disc Awards, Hwasa won the "Best Digital Song - Bonsang" for "Maria". In her acceptance speech, Hwasa thanks her beloved family, the fans who have always support her, her MAMAMOO members, and Woo Sung, who helped make the extended play "Maria" with her. She ended her speech by saying that she will continue to work hard to make people happy, even during tough times.

Hwasa has stated that the extended play is like a diary that contains the emotions she felt when she was 24 years old. "Maria" debuted and peaked at number five n the Gan Album Chart. Additionally, the extended play debuted at number seven on the Billboard Word Albums Charts and at number 81 on the Billboard Top Current Album Sales Charts.
