In a survey conducted by Idol Chart, BTS member Jungkook was selected as the star people are most anticipating in 2021. Keep on reading to learn more.
The survey that was conducted by Idol Chart was held from Jan. 4 to Jan. 21. In the final tally of votes, BTS's golden maknae (youngest member) Jungkook took the throne, ranking in 22,666 votes out of the total 43,532 votes.
Jungkook recently made headlines after debuting blonde hair for the first time since his debut at the Golden Disc Awards, which sparked rumors that the idol would soon be releasing a solo mixtape. As of press time, nothing has been confirmed.
In 2020, Jungkook dabbled in solo activities, releasing the song "Still With You" on June 4, 2020, for free via BTS's official group SoundCloud page. The song was released as part of BTS's yearly debut anniversary celebrations. The song was praised by Billboard for having "tinkling synths" and "gently strummed guitars" with "brushed drums". "Still With You" was produced by Jungkook himself.
Of course, we cannot mention Jungkook without mention BTS and their monumental achievements in 2020! Last year, BTS became the best-selling artist in South Korean history after it was reported they sold more than 20 million albums. They also released the best-selling album in South Korean history, "Map of the Soul: 7" in 2020.
Following the success of "Map of the Soul: 7", they released a Japanese version of the album titled "Map of the Soul: 7 - The Journey." Initially slated for a world tour, they ended up unable to pursue any live performance due to the coronavirus pandemic. That did not slow BTS down, however.
In Aug., they released their first all-English single "Dynamite", which debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Not only is it BTS's first number-one single in the United States, it marked the first time a Korean act had a number one single in the country ever. They scored their second number one hit a month later with their remix of Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo's "Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat)."
In Nov., BTS dropped their album "BE" with the title track "Life Goes On". The song topped the Billboard Hot 100, marking it BTS's third number one for the third consecutive month. "Life Goes On" is sang primarily in Korean, making it the first Korean language song to hit number one in the United States.
Sitting at number two is Kim Jaehwan, who first made his name known as a member of Wanna One and is now active as a soloist. Kim Jaehwan garnered 8,115 votes or approximately 19% of the votes cast.
Kim Jaehwan debuted as a soloist on May 20, 2019, under Swing Entertainment. His last extended play was released on Dec. 12, 2019. Despite not having released a mini-album since then, Kim Jaehwan has released singles. In 2020, he released "Goodbye" and "I'm Not Okay". He also released "Cold", a collaboration with MC Mong and Penomeco.
Kim Jaehwan is also active in terms of releasing songs for drama's soundtracks. In 2020, he released "Someday" for "Crash Landing on You", "You're My End and My Beginning (with Im Han Byeol)" for "The King: Eternal Monarch", "What If" for "Record of Youth" and "Every Moment" for "Bunny & The Boys".
