SM Entertainment, agency of Girl's Generation's Hyoyeon, clarified her alleged involvement to Kim Sang Kyo, the "Burning Sun" case whistleblower, who mentioned her earlier in an Intagram post.
On Jan. 13, Wednesday, Kim Sang Kyo posted a lengthy message on his Instagram, detailing more about the "Burning Sun" case. It instantly captured a chunk of attention from K-pop fans and netizens as he uploaded a photo of Hyoyeon, hinting that she was a witness and should testify regarding the case.
Due to this, SM Entertainment immediately countered the whistleblower's claim by releasing its official stand regarding this controversy, stating that Hyoyeon has nothing to do with it.
SM Entertainment Drops Statement Affirming That Hyoyeon is Not Involved in Any Way to "Burning Sun" case
On Thursday afternoon, Jan. 14, SM Entertainment told Spot TV News their response to the allegations to their artist.
The agency said, "Hyoyeon has nothing to do with the case. She was only invited to perform as a DJ at the time. Please refrain from having speculation and misunderstanding."
Meanwhile, the post of Kim narrated the incident when he was assaulted last November 28, 2018, while he was reportedly helping a woman who was sexually harassed in the Burning Sun club. According to him, he was assaulted by Seungri's friend, and instead of getting help, he was instead arrested for several charges including defamation, indecent act, etc. He then pointed out in his post that the VVIP members of the club only watched the incident.

Reports also said that when he was arrested, he was harassed by the police. Since then, suspicions of collusion between police and clubs have raised the repercussions due to drug supply and distribution issues.
In addition, the "Burning Sun Assault Case" triggered the "Burning Sun Gate" as it was known that Seungri, Jung Joonyoung, and others shared videos of women that were illegally filmed in their KakaoTalk group chat room.
Hyoyeon Responds, Narrates What She Actually Saw That Day
In 2018, Hyoyeon debuted as a DJ under SM's label Scream Records, an electronic dance music agency. "DJ Hyo" became her stage name and aside from her promotion as a K-pop idol through Girls' Generation, Hyoyeon also performed at local club tours and EDM festivals.
In the same year, the female star performed as a DJ in the Burning Sun club, and it was commemorated with a photo she took alongside Seungri, then owner of the club. However, the unfortunate incident happened on the same day she went there, and the photo (now deleted) became a hint that she was present at that time.
Now, Kim Sang Kyo is demanding the female idol to come forward and to testify what she witnessed during the time she performed at the club, which was immediately denied by SM Entertainment.
Hyoyeon also said, "Everyone, calm down! [...] I greeted many people, drank with my friends and staff who came to congratulate me on my performance, and after eating pork belly, I came home! I think I've seen men and women drooling in the club trying to seduce each other. But I've never heard of a drooling actress."
She added, "Oh, again! I'm going to delete this tomorrow. I'm not going to delete it because I'm scared. If you don't say it, you'll become a pushover! Happy New Year, everyone. I wish you a long, eternal life."
