UP10TION's Kim Woo Seok will be making his long-awaited solo comeback this year!
On Monday, Jan. 18, the idol's management agency, TOP Media announced that Kim Woo Seok is making his return as a singer with his solo comeback set to be next month. In Dec. 2020, a source from the record label shared that the preparation of the male idol's comeback is underway and is aimed to be this month, but it is now scheduled for February.
Kim Woo Seok's comeback will be his first in approximately eight months since he made his debut as a solo artist with "Red Moon" in May 2020. Also, this will be his first return to the K-pop scene as he has been active as an actor in the past months.
Kim Woo Seok made his debut twice as a member of an idol group. He first debuted as a vocalist, visual, and face of the group of UP10TION under TOP Media back in September 2015 with an extended play titled "Top Secret." He rose to fame when he competed in Mnet's boy group survival show "Produce X 101," together with his bandmate Lee Jin Hyuk in 2019.
During the program, Kim Woo Seok won the hearts of the fans and viewers through his mesmerizing performances. In particular, the male idol made a huge impression after his killer performance as the center of the team that performed EXO's "Love Shot." Following that, he ranked No.1 on the Non-Drama Popularity Ranking in May 2019 that was released by Good Date Corporation.
In the final episode of Mnet's "Produce X 101," Kim finished in second place with a total of 3,120,276 votes, securing a spot in the final lineup of the project boy group that will make its debut. The band was later revealed to be called X1. Woo Seok then made his second debut as a member of a K-pop act in August 2019 when X1 released an album titled "Emergency: Quantum Leap" with the title song "Flash."
X1 later disbanded in January 2020 after it was revealed that Mnet's producers manipulated the final votes of the trainees in "Produce X 101" and the other "Produce" shows. Because of this, the singer focused on his solo activities, starting with making his solo debut on May 25, 2020 with an album titled "1st Desire: Greed" with the title track "Red Moon."
He then entered the world of K-dram with his very first male lead role in in the web drama, "Twenty Twenty." The television show aired from August to October 2020. In August of the same year, Kim Woo Seok received the "New K-Wave Voice Award" at the 4th Soribada Best K-Music Awards. This is his first award after he began his solo activities.
While he's still part of UP10TION, Kim has been inactive in group releases and promotions since he participated in "Produce X 101." The idol's latest work is a collaboration single titled "Memories" with former X1 member Lee Eun Sang, which was out on Oct. 14.
