MAMAMOO's Agency Shares Update on the Members' Exclusive Contract Renewals

After seven years, MAMAMOO's exclusive contract with RBW Entertainment is about to come to an end this 2021. And now, the group's management agency has released an official statement to give an update about the members' contracts.

According to RBW Entertainment on Jan. 22, they are currently in the process of discussing the renewal of the exclusive contracts between them and the MAMAMOO members. The label also mentioned the many speculative rumors and questions related to the matter, so they decided to release an official statement to disclose the progress and to clarify things up.

MAMAMOO's management agency added, "There is still plenty of time left in the current contract period, but we wanted to give the members enough time to reflect and think about this carefully as they have put their trust in us and have been with us for a long time. Hence, we started the discussion early."

RBW Entertainment further revealed that as of now, Solar and Moonbyul have already completed their exclusive contract renewals with them based on their mutual trust and expectations. As for Wheein and Hwasa, the two idols have given positive opinions on the matter yet they still haven't renewed their exclusive contracts with the company. But then again, RBW expects good outcomes since each of the members has great affection and pride toward MAMAMOO.

MAMAMOO made its debut in June 2014 with a single titled "Mr. Ambiguous" from their first extended play "Hello." This means that the members' exclusive contracts with RBW Entertainment are scheduled to expire in that month. However, it seems like the group will be not be affected by the "seven-year curse" in K-pop as two members have already finalized their exclusive contract renewals.

The "seven-year curse" is known to be an unfortunate year when a lot of K-pop groups either disband or lose a member or two. Among the idol groups that were not able to overcome this were 2NE1, 4Minute, SISTAR, Miss A, Wonder Girls, and KARA.

Meanwhile, MAMAMOO is a Korean girl group that is made up of four members, namely Hwasa, Solar, Moonbyul, and Wheein. The band's debut was considered by critics as one of the best K-pop debuts of 2014. They are known for their jazz, retro, and R&B concepts, as well as for their strong vocal performances.

The RBW girl group saw its breakthrough in February 2016 after they launched their first full-length album titled "Melting," which debuted at No. 3 on the Gaon Chart. The album's title track "You're the Best" also entered the chart at No. 3 and later rose to No. 1 after one week of its release, thus becoming MAMAMOO's first number-one song. In addition, the quartet was able to get their first music show win with "You're the Best."

Because of their continuous success, MAMAMOO established itself as a powerhouse group in the industry. Aside from promoting as a group, the members also focused on their solo activities in which they were able to make name for themselves as among the best solo artists in K-pop.
