Will MAMAMOO Break the 'Seven-Year Curse'? Attention is Focused on Hwasa Gaining Individual Stardom

Fans' attention is focused on MAMAMOO, particularly on Hwasa, if the group will be able to break the so-called "seven-year curse" and be a representative of longevity for girl groups.

The prominent girl group MAMAMOO's exclusive contract with its agency RBW Entertainment is set to expire this year, drawing curiosity about their future course of action.

Depending on the members' choices surrounding the agency's future, MAMAMOO's future may also change.

On Jan. 22, RBW announced that members Solar and Moonbyul renewed their contract with the agency. As for Wheein and Hwasa, the agency affirmed that they are still positively discussing with the remaining members.

RBW said, "As all the members have a lot of affection and pride for MAMAMOO, we expect positive results." Along with the agency, supporters of the group particularly its fandom, MooMoos, strongly believed as well that MAMAMOO will stay together.

Will Hwasa Renew Her Contract?

Meanwhile, despite positive anticipation, Hwasa's decision is giving intrigues as her individual career is considerably at its peak. Hwasa became one of the "hottest icons" last year for her excellent performance both in the music and entertainment field.

Last year, she hit a jackpot after releasing her debut EP, "Maria," creating history as the first Korean female artist to ranked No. 1 in the U.S. iTunes Album Charts.

In the same year, the female idol became a member of the project supergroup, "Refund Sisters" as well, where their track, "Don't Touch Me" maintained their ranked atop for two consecutive weeks in the "Gaon Digital Chart."

In addition to this, the year-end rankings of various music and media outlet such as Billboard, Spotify, Rolling Stone, etc., proved that she's indeed one of the hottest solo artists, with her hit track, "Maria" being selected as one of the best tracks and MV of 2020.

Despite the popularity, Hwasa's tight schedule is likely to have nothing to do with MAMAMOO's activities.

As Hwasa stands out through her solo career and is gaining huge popularity as a solo artist, many companies have been caught eyeing Hwasa, who is about to sign an exclusive contract.

Therefore, it is no exaggeration to say that Hwasa has much of the height of the four-member Mamamoo.
