[Trigger Warning/Content Warning: This article mentions death.]

Korean actress Song Yoo Jung suddenly passed away at the age of 26 (international reckoning).

According to an exclusive report from Maeil Kyungjae on Jan. 25, the actress was confirmed dead on Jan. 23. The original article stated that Song passed away by suicide, but the Korean media outlet later edited the news, removing references to suicide. Hence, the cause of her death has been disclosed.

On the same day, Yoo Jung's management label, Sublime Artist Agency, stated, "Actress Song Yoo Jung departed this life on Jan. 23, 2021. As per the wishes of her family, the funeral was taken place quietly, and the funeral procession occurs on Jan. 25." The company then described Song as someone who was their friend who gave them joy with her bright smile, as well as a great actress who "acted with heated passion."

Following the news of her sudden death, fans and netizens all flocked to her social media posts and left thousands of comments to express their sadness and wishes for her. Some commented that they hope she is comfortable and happy wherever she is right now, while others say they are saddened about her unexpected passing.

Even Oh Jae-moo, a South Korean actor as well, expressed his sadness and longing for Song Yoo Jung. He took to his personal Instagram to share a photo of himself with the actress beside her. Together with the picture is a caption where he reminisced how Song would always give a bright smile to everyone.

The next day after the news about Song's sudden death, Sublime Artist Agency stated that many defamation posts about them and Yoo Jung have been made and shared in numerous sites, online communities, and even on social media. Because of this, the entertainment agency will be taking legal action against the act of creating and spreading defamation posts against them and their artists. Sublime Artist Agency even said that there will be no preemptive action in the process.

Song Yoo Jung made her debut in South Korea's entertainment industry as a cosmetics brand model and started her acting career in MBC's 2013 weekend drama titled "Golden Rainbow." The Korean actress was then cast in the same cable channel series "Make Your Wish" in 2014 in which she gained viewers' attention for her outstanding acting performance.

Following this, she also made her appearance in KBS2's "School 2017," the seventh installment of the cable channel's "School" franchise. In the drama, she worked with numerous actors and actresses like Kim Sejeong, Kim Junghyun, Jang Dongyoon, and more. In 2019, she starred in Naver TV Cast's web drama "Dear My Name." The latter becomes her last acting project.

The Korean actress is also familiar to K-pop fans as she appeared in the music video for iKON's "Goodbye Road" in 2018. She was also featured in more music videos, such as in NIve's "How Do I," and Standing Egg's "Friend to Lover." In 2019, she joined Sublime Artist Agency to continue her acting promotions.

May she rest in peace. Our deepest condolences to Soo Yoo Jung's family and friends.
