BTS Becomes First K-pop Boy Group to Have 1.2 Billion YouTube Views with 'DNA'

BTS has once again made history and set an impressive YouTube record with their hit song "DNA"!

Dropped on Sept. 18, 2017, "DNA" serves as the title track of the Big Hit boy group's fifth mini-album titled "Love Yourself: Her." It is described as an EDM pop genre song that expresses young and bold love. It captivates listeners with its catchy whistle tune and acoustic guitar sound.

BTS's "DNA" MV Reaches 1.2 Billion Views

On the same day, the music video for BTS's "DNA" was released at 6 p.m. KST. And as of Feb. 11 at 3.13 a.m. KST, the MV reached 1.2 billion views, which means it took three years, four months, and 23 days for it to attain the milestone. Because of this, "DNA" is now the first K-pop boy group MV to hit its current YouTube views, making BTS the very first Korean all-male band to achieve this feat.

So far, the only other Korean music videos that have reached 1.2 billion views are PSY's "Gangnam Style" and "Gentleman" together with BLACKPINK's "DDU-DU DDU-DU" and "Kill This Love."

In June 2020, BTS's "DNA" was revealed to have been the first K-pop boy group MV to surpass one billion YouTube views, after over two years, eight months, and 13 days. It is also BTS's first music to do so, and the third Korean act to obtain this.

Moreover, The music video for BTS's "DNA" was initially the fastest K-pop group MV to reach 10 million views in eight hours until the group launched "Dynamite" on Aug. 21, 2020, which attained such a huge feat in just 21 minutes. It is also the fastest MV in the world to hit the mark.

The "DNA" MV also became the quickest video to have 20 million views in less than 21 hours until it was bested by BTS's "Boy With Luv" in five hours and three minutes. BLACKPINK then overcame "Boy With Luv" with their new song "How You Like That," which achieved the milestone in only four hours and 32 minutes.

Furthermore, the music video for BTS's "DNA" reached 22.3 million views in 24 hours, becoming the most-viewed K-pop view in 24 hours until it was beaten by numerous songs including BTS's "Fake Love." It was also the eleventh most-viewed video at the time of release.

BTS 2021 Updates So Far

As of February 2021, BTS has two music videos with more than one billion views - their 2017 track "DNA" and their 2019 song "Boy With Luv." The latter recently surpassed 1.1 billion YouTube views on Jan. 13 at around 1:19 p.m. KST. BTS's "Boy With Luv" was released on April 12, 2019, meaning it took around one year and nine months to hit the feat.

Meanwhile, BTS continues to rank high on Billboard charts. Early in January, the group's "Dynamite" was announced to be the longest-charting K-pop song on Billboard Hot 100's top 10. Then, on Feb. 9, the track remained on the Billboard Global Excluding United States chart and the Billboard Global 200 chart.
