Jeon Somi Was Bullied in The Past
In Jul. 2020, Jeon Somi appeared on MBC's "Radio Star." During her appearance, Jeon Somi broke both fans' and viewers' hearts when she revealed that she was intensely bullied in the past.
Jeon Somi told the story of how she transferred to another school when she was a third-grade student. The day after she moved, her class had to vote for a student president. Her friends had told her that they would all vote for her if she participated in the running. She did not know what she was getting herself into but participated. In the end, she became the student president with the most votes.
Despite how her friends said they would support her, they ended up becoming jealous of her winning the election. Jeon Somi revealed she was bullied the day after she came to the student president, and it lasted all the way until the first semester of her sixth grade.
The bullying got so bad that Jeon Somi had no friends in school. Instead, the idol was best friends with her teacher. According to the idol, her peers made fun of her for being mixed. As Somi is half-Korean and half-Dutch-Canadian, her peers picked on her for being different and often called her a "hybrid."
Jeon Somi Overcame the Bullying
Despite what she endured, Jeon Somi was able to overcome the bullying easily. During her appearance on "Radio Star," Jeon Somi revealed that after she debuted, she was talking a walk in Shinchon when she bumped into someone familiar - it was the girl who bullied her!
When Jeon Somi saw them, she actually greeted her bully first! According to Somi, the girl then asked for a picture with desperate eyes. Somi agreed and took the picture in a calm and confident manner.
Chef Yeonbok, who was on the show with Jeon Somi at that time, said something that is very timely. "You are lucky you were the one bullied," he said. "If it was the opposite, you would have become a big problem by now."

Many people sympathized with Jeon Somi's experiences. People noted that bullying leaves an eternal wound on the victim for life and that it is not easily forgotten or shrugged off.
