WayV Makes Highly-Anticipated Comeback with New Mini-Album 'Kick Back'

NCT's China-based unit, WayV, has finally made their comeback with a new mini-album, which is their first release after nine months. Their comeback also includes the music video for their title track "Kick Back."

WayV Releases New Mini-Album and Music Video for "Kick Back"

After dropping teaser images and videos since the last week of February, SM Entertainment's boy group - consisting of Hendery, Lucas, Ten, Kun, Winwin, Yangyang, and Xiaojun - is finally back!

On March 10 at 8 p.m. KST, WayV has officially released their third mini-album titled "Kick Back." It comprises a total of six songs in a variety of genres, including the title track of the same name as the album. WayV is the second NCT sub-unit to release new music this year, with the first one being NCT 127 that launched their second Japanese extended play entitled "Loveholic" on Feb. 17.

WayV Holds Online Comeback Showcase for New Mini-Album

An hour ahead of their much-anticipated comeback, WayV held a "2021 WayV ONLINE SHOWCASE 'Kick Back.'" The event was live-streamed via the group's official SNS accounts Twitter and V LIVE, as well as via their YouTube channel. More than 100,000 viewers tuned into the group's online comeback showcase.

NCT's China-based sub-unit first performed the song "Take Off," which is the title track of their first mini-album that has the same name as the single. According to WayV leader, Kun, during the interview, "Take Off" has a special meaning to the group as it means that they will do their best to fly high.

He also explained why they chose "Take Off" as their first performance. Kun explained that they wanted to show how much they've grown and improved since their first mini-album was released.

WayV Winwin then shared that their new mini-album consists of six songs, and three of them will come with choreography. He also described the title track "Kick Back" to have a catchy melody and has easy-to-follow dance moves.

When asked whether what the group wants to show through their new album "Kick Back," WayV Hendery said that their previous music was full of power and ambition, so the new one is more relaxed and shows the mature side of the members.

Throughout the interview, WayV talked about their new album, describing the songs in it. The SM Entertainment boy group also performed "Bad Alive" (English Version), "Nectar," "All for Love," "Action Figure," and "Kick Back."

WayV's First Full Album "Awaken the World" and Its Chart Performance

The group's last release before their new mini-album "Kick Back" is their first studio album "Awaken the World," which came out on June 9 last year. This full-length album is composed of ten songs that are mostly under the hip-hop and R&B genres.

Shortly after its launch, WayV's first studio album topped the iTunes charts in a total of 21 countries, and all ten tracks from the album charted within the top 10 of the QQ Music Soaring Songs Chart in China. Moreover, "Awaken the World" debuted at No. 3 on the Gaon Album Chart for the week ending June 20. It eventually made it to the monthly chart, taking the No. 3 position and becoming WayV's first top 10 on the said chart.
