NCT U is, undeniably, among the biggest male K-pop groups today. On Monday, March 15, the first sub-unit of NCT reached another milestone after the official music video of their chart-topping track called "The 7th Sense" surpassed the 100 million views mark on YouTube. Keep on reading to know more about the group's latest achievement.
NCT U's 'The 7th Sense' Garners More Than 100 Million Views Already
The S.M. Entertainment-formed group has broken another record after their debut single -- as a subunit - got more than 100 million views recently. The clip of "The 7th Sense" also amassed a total of 1.7 million likes and more than 159,870 comments as of press time.
"The 7th Sense" by NCT U was released on April 9, 2016, which means that it took four years and 11 months before it achieved the feat. Ten, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Mark, and Taeyong appeared in the music video, where they showed off their exemplary singing prowess and astounding dance moves.
The latest victory of NCT U came months after they were criticized for using Islamic imagery in their "Make A Wish (Birthday Song)" performance. The group was under fire after they used snaps of an Islamic shrine as a background during one of their shows.
In October 2020, NCT U sang the "Make A Wish (Birthday Song)" on "Inkigayo" accompanied by some visuals fans identified as the Imam Husayn Shrine in Iraq. Not only that, the band allegedly used mosque designs in their merchandise items, including an ornate cube that looks very similar to a sacred place of worship called The Kaaba.
Many people expressed disappointment with SM Entertainment, at the time, that they demanded an apology for the concept used in "Make A Wish (Birthday Song)." Some even told the agency to educate themselves about cultural appropriation. Netizens also trended the hashtag #SMStopDisrespectingIslam to help call their attention to the alarming issue.
